Thanks for the thoughts and input. In my research there are 4 manufacturers to pick from who all make decent grinders.
1. Rayco
2. Bandit - One of my buddies is a bandit guy and has had continual nightmare stories about both his chippers and grinders both on break down and service from local...
So I'm looking at buying a stump grinder and I wanted to know your thoughts on the fillowing:
1. Make
2. Model
3. Wheel and teeth combo
4. Gas vs diesel
5. Hydraulic vs belt driven
Here is a bit of info as to what I'm thinking as for now:
1. Remote
2. Blade
3. Budget around $50k
4. Self...
So I am looking into getting a new tool to make holes in stems for when I install static cable. I do not do a lot of cabling. Right now I borrow a gas powered drill from a buddy but that option is going away. So now I am going to buy something. I lean toward the Milwaukee m18 system since I...
For my small crew without a doubt, without a question, the best money I have ever spent is on my Ditch Witch sk800! 1 year old and nearly 0 headaches. Does the work of 3 guys. Can lift limbs off of stuff. Can pull whatever. Can push trees over. Can spread wood chips. Can sweep up rakings and get...
Difficulty becomes throwing chips all the way to the front of the chip box to fill the truck. Do the math figure out how much longer the tongue would be and try it first. And figure out if it will do it with average knives not just the brand new wicked shap ones.
I was wondering if you would be willing to share your waiver of responsibility with me? I want to let my guys dive my trucks drunk and high. That way, WHEN (NOT IF) they kill someone I can just point to my trusty ol waiver. I think I'll be fine. No liability here. After all they are free men. It...
I had a chip truck with a lift gate. Seems like a great idea in theory. I used it once and never again. I agree put the money into a mini instead. Ef loading wood by hand.
A year ago I bought a Ditch Witch (sk800) a bmg, the scoops and the broom. Power rotate is not need and only adds lines and weight to the tool. The scoops and broom are the greasiest thing ever! I dont use them on every job but when I do they are worth their weight I gold. Do the tree work...
Leaving a cut tree leaning the wrong way over night.... huummmm what could possibly go wrong there? Sounds like your friend should stick to licking the windows and not "do favors" for people. This is what happens to people who hire any jamocke with a pulse and a chainsaw. Sounds to me like...
The idea of dumping the mini with the chips even if chained into a cubby hole seems sketchy to me. I can just see too many bad outcomes. It would be essentially like rolling your matching onto its side every time. What would the divider look like? What happens when chips get into that divider...
I just had a student do a project on decay detection and he reached out to Dr. Brazee at UMASS and he was very helpful. I would reach out to him and see what he has to say. The problem is inciting panic. As mentioned if there is any decay detected many homeowners panic and go into kill mode.
A number of years ago I found save edge files. Only ones I buy now. File like butta and last a while. I will pay for quality. Nothing worse than a shitty chainsaw file. I dont know about relative cost because I dont shop around.
After I built my chip truck I liked many features that I went with and I found some stuff I would do differently. I love the L pack toolbox. Must have 6' tall box so you can stand up inside the box while peeing. One thing I didnt think of was a step on the outside of the truck to get into the...
