Designing a chip box. Input appreciated

That was one of my thoughts Merle, but the storage issue is a head scratcher. I am usually a one truck outfit with a good charge of gear, and the two belly boxes fill up quick. It is a short wheelbase model which is what I wanted, but an L pack or other options takes a bunch of chip space so gonna find some kind of happy medium. Best of luck chiselbit, looking forward to the pics.

Ive never seen this on a chip truck but If I were to build a truck I would definitely put a power lift gate on it for loading logs.

I thought about that, but I never saw a lift gate that was compatible with a dump bed. I’m sure they’re out there but not common. I think it’s smarter to take the money and put it toward a mini loader instead of a liftgate. That way it gets the wood to the truck for you and lifts it in as well.

I could see that, but ramps seem more reliable and a LOT cheaper. (Maybe hinged ramps would get you the length needed so your angle isn't crazy steep?). @climbhightree has posted many pics of his ramp setup. Pretty nice.

Serf Life, I'm a one truck operation too and tool/equip heavy. I'm thinking of puting tool boxes 18 inches high, 18 inches deep the length of a 10 foot box on each side and a 14 inch wide ladder/pole pruner box on top of the set on the right side. It will use a bunch of chip space but seems woth it. Think I calced it at still 13 yards with a six foot roof, 98 inch wide box.

What about bolting boxes to the outside of a box as pictured above?

If your a one truck operation and you store your mini in the bed, go with tall enough that you can stand upright on your mini. It will make loading and unloading so much easier.

My chip box angles down from back to front, because of this my mini barely fits and has to be nosed in and backed out, all while trying to wheelie up the 10 foot ramps.

Hmm, saw a dump for sale which had that basic setup with aluminum boxes along the sides. Are you thinking a diy like that or a custom job like the canadian below that would be more rugged for loading wood? 1551876687412-779533851.webpThe whole putting another box inside of a steel dump body seems cost effective but not gvw effective. What's your payload capacity @DTS ?

Custom either way for me. I have an email into that Canadian company to see if I could swing that type of box in aluminum. Otherwise it will be a steel box with 18 x18 slots along the bottom of each side to mount toolboxes in. (A hooklift bed I can just set on the ground when not in use.)

I had a chip truck with a lift gate. Seems like a great idea in theory. I used it once and never again. I agree put the money into a mini instead. Ef loading wood by hand.
