I don't use my zigzag often partly because I'm usually climbing srt, partly because it doesn't grab like it used to. It doesn't slip at all once my weight is in it so I'm not sure it's worn out, but I have to set it by hand for it to grab.

I was envisioning the same as it is now with a the spliced tether holding the two together...thinking it over though, maybe there are hardware options that'd work but I can't really imagine anything being an improvement over the tether as it is now

I agree, ladders are probably the most dangerous tool in tree work. I avoid using one 99% of the time. When I first started tree work, my foreman broke his shoulder falling off an orchard ladder, he was using it because it was wet/rainy and too slippery to climb :rolleyes:... A wheelchair bound...
For now it’s got to be one or the other for a few reasons, (mainly space/storage) ...So I get they both have their place but do need to choose.
I believe you as you do have both, but am surprised chipper and grapple upkeep have been similar. I’d really expect the chipper with its fast moving...
