Well @levi r since you started the thread and you asked for more info this doesn't qualify as a hijack lol. We started with three guys, and the idea that we wanted to share decision-making equally so we just granted each other equal power. We all had different levels of experience and...

Then definitely don't use a neck tether. There are plenty of other hazards coming at you doing tree work and to me, this one seems pretty low risk. Also a stiff collar can choke you if you're unconscious.

I use a neck tether for everything and never have any problems with abrasion, including with the HHXF. Just pick a nice thick soft rope for your tether. Mine looks like this:

We're structured as a worker-owned cooperative. It can be a challenging structure for a business if you don't like all the humans you work with but luckily I do. It is also a way to reject many of the negative things about capitalism.

We have had a mixed bag of quality with these magnetic signs. One flew off my truck almost a year ago and one hasn't budged. I like the logo, it was designed by a friend/student of mine who is a graphic designer. Traded the design work for pruning a Mulberry and Siberian Elm in his backyard.

Give me hand crank windows and a manual transmission all day baby. The power windows take longer because they always want to roll all the way down and that's rarely what I need or want and I spend two minutes trying to feather the damn window button to get it right. While we're at it, throw...

Move to Detroit. There's plenty of tree work here and plenty of fight too. This city will never be conquered by fascism after what it's been through and risen from. You can work with us!

    Work Photos

Everyone makes mistakes, it's how you respond that matters and that's a pretty good response! I did almost exactly the same thing this Spring with a chunk of Norway that got away from me and smashed the fascia on a garage. Luckily it was going to be painted and remodeled soon and I did a...

Hiring a climber/ employee from out of area

I think it's pretty normal for a human to have increasing fear at greater heights. It is unusual to have the same fear at 15' that you would at 180'. The feeling of being surrounded by a canopy is also reassuring at any height. I think that may be a bigger factor actually. I am more comfy in...

    Velcroed Tops, Spiderman and Treeson

The amount of product placement in the first two minutes put me off watching the rest. I'm sure it was interesting but I don't have the patience

    Bolting or cable splitting tree

The presence or absence of decay is also a huge factor in this decision in my opinion. Absent decay, Sugar Maple is super hard and strong wood.

    Bolting or cable splitting tree

Rod down low, cable up high, end weight reduction prior to cable installation.

    Cobra Cabling

Not to get too far in the weeds on this but my brain just works this way. If you were to do a loop splice but instead make it a figure 8, the added friction from additional contact area would take load off the splice. The price of both a loop and figure 8 is more potential for wear on the...

    Cobra Cabling

Why not just switch to a static cable? You can always replace it if it gets too snug. That way you don't have to worry. As for the loop, it would have a higher breaking strength than the standard way of installing it I would think so that's a plus.

    Cable Bracing

We usually charge around $800 for a 3/8" cable that is in the 15' or longer range. Usually it is rolled into a package price that includes end weight reduction on the limb(s) in question so that is rarely the total price. If it is a short run and/or smaller cable the price can be as low as $300

Need Harken part, don't even know how hard ot will be to replace it

If this is from a GRCS we ordered that same part from Arbsession. I think it's the jaw kit.

    F250 Dump Thoughts

We have an '01 F350 crew cab with a 7.3 and a dump insert like yours @Keeth and it pulls a Bandit 250XP and a full box of chips with no problem. The weeble wobble is real though with the dump insert. The 7.3 is just a next level motor.

My uncle is in Rose City. If you are able to take a picture of everything along with a list of what's there it would really help me to know if a trip is in order. I'm in Detroit. You could PM me that stuff or post it in the thread, either way!
