Hi treevet!
The bent zigzag image provided by Petzl is just an example of one that should be retired, to fit their descriptions of misuse.
As for the image of the one with the torn eye that has been getting around, i am not positive it has been said anywhere that that is the actual one from...
Cheers rockettree!
My argument of trousers being safer than chaps is trousers are ALWAYS on.
With chaps the is always the temptation to make an excuse not to wear them.
Eg. Oh it's too hot today - Oh I left them in the other truck - Oh it's just a couple of easy cuts - Oh this is just a quick...

Many of these devices we are speaking about have a CE# and/or an EN#. I cannot say all as I do not have some in front of me.
Now as I understand it (take for granted I am going on some fact, some research, some things told to me and a bit of intuition) the CE # signifies the testing...

Ok, so I'm going to eat all my words defending the zigzag. It sounds as if it is straight up failing...

Hey Tom & Climberjunkieee, treegear is in Australia.

Conecto too big and clumsy????
How so?
It is about half the size of the petzl one.
Like a chunkier version of the ringS that goes on the bridge, or a dmm anchor ring.
It is used in the same purpose as the sequoia on the stein vega harness.
