Yeah I think I'm going to try explaining it to him then show him that YT video of the guy cutting 2" trees with a handsaw. I think it's a deer habitat video or something.
Edit: this one
I've been cutting like 15 cords a year for the past 11 years ever since I bought my outdoor wood burner. My older brother has been cutting about 15 years longer than me for his outdoor wood burner. I was walking on his property today and noticed he drops trees with angled back cuts and poor...
I used to use what ClimbStihl posted, but found an REI chest harness in my closet that I'd got a long time ago. I like it a little bit better. They don't sell it anymore but It's almost exactly like the Petzl Voltige Chest Harness.
I use a keychain carabiner and swivel dog snap but would...
You could try a piece of tubular webbing if you have any. I use to use a piece of webbing about 4' long-ish. I just tied it into a loop so it was comfy going around my back and through both arms. Brought the two ends together at my chest and used a small carabiner and swivel dog snap to hook...
I have the holster too, it works very well. I just use a bit of webbing as a chest harness, Works great but you could also use your lanyard over your shoulder.
I've never tried the HAAS but I know it's more expensive, and I see no benefit to it over the SAKA mini. Although I feel the HAAS should work just as well. Even the homebuilt ones should work fine. Looking at the HAAS or the SAKA, they are very simple in construction to build. But I feel...
The side loading is not an issue in my opinion. I don't think I've ever noticed it at all. One thing I'd suggest is to wear boots with it though. The day I got mine I tried it out with tennis shoes and ended up with a big bruise on my ankle for a few days.
I'm in the process of deciding which double locking carabiners I want to buy more of. I have some of the DMM, Notch, Mad Rock, Kong, which are all push up then twist, and Rock Exotica's pull down style. I also recently got a Petzl ball lock, and have had it for a few days and have had a...
Where do you guys store your climbing gear? Stuff like carabiners, saddles, ropes, pulleys, etc... Do you keep it in duffel bags, cabinets, backpacks, buckets, hanging on your wall, in your refrigerator?
Im assuming the pros keep their gear organized somehow in their trucks so this probably...
Is there someplace that has a list of all the percentages of the different types of accidents involved in tree climbing? Like hit by falling tree, rope failure, climbing gear failure, electrocution, cut by chainsaw, head injury from falling objects, misuse of gear, etc...
Are there any other brands that pull down like the RE's or are they the only ones? It seems like almost every other brand (besides the ball locks from Petzl) are push up then twist. Might make sense to go with one of the push up and twist brands and just get used to them, since almost everyone...
I do not like the Rock O. I like the pull design of the Rock Exotica double lockers, but I don't like the O shape. Of any carabiners for that matter. I like the HMS shape best. I like to be able to tell which way the carabiner is oriented by feel and the pear shape of the HMS is easiest for...
Which double locking/triple action carabiner style do you like most? It seems like the most common is the Push Up, then twist and open. What is your favorite?
