So...to be clear, you toss over a desired limb. The bag goes straight to the ground. You then tie a bag to the "cube" end, and use the line with the bag on the ground to pull it up the "cube" bag, and settle it back down adjacent to the one on the ground?
If so...it sounds effective. However...
Hey Vicente,
This weekend, my stuck throw balls looked more like a bird's nest based on a treble hook, or a striped candy cane around a limb. With both of those situations, the following technique wouldn't have helped. I do think it's a good one for many situations. The production is a bit...
Thank you for the ideas. I wasn't sure if that is a best practice. I thought one would want to connect before sending the line up to a TIP, where removal would demand climbing to retrieve.
Good morning.
I climb MRS and SRT. When climbing SRT, I most frequently deploy a canopy anchor. When I use a 5mm retrieval rope, I find it gets in the way while ascending…then gets a bit tangled as the climb continues. I’m pretty sure there is a better way to manage the retrieval line...
Hello.
The Weaver Elastic Suspender arrived in one day! They're awesome, and fit on my Petzl Sequoia (MRS) nicely. They're a very stout elastic. In no way do they sag under the wait of the harness. I think the hipless amongst us will be pleased. Definitely eliminates the need to overtighten the...
Hello.
I'm an avid fisherman. My expertise is trolling. I go for pretty fish: Trout, Steelhead, Salmon, Kokanee. Oh...did I mention delicious as well? Anyway, sometimes I go out and get skunked. Not a bite, not a nibble. And sometimes, those days include nothing but screwed up tackle that goes...
Hello Dan,
They run perfectly sized, as they are tapered for climbing. I’m a baggy clothes guy, so I notice the slim fit. Nothing extreme, just not baggy/loose. If I wasn’t wearing a saddle, they wouldn’t come down, even without a belt.
There was no way this wasn't going to bring on torment and ridicule (smile).
There's something called "the spiral of silence." Nobody else is saying anything, so I won't. Then...it doesn't exist.
There is no way I'm the only one experiencing this. In fact...I'd say there are a lot of arborists...
I've tried various pants - button, snap, elastic, drawstring, belt, no belt, etc. Right now, I'm using these super cool pants made by Kuhl (pronounced cool). I think they might be used for rock climbing (now tree climbing too!)
I don't have much in the way of hips...so the pants can easily...
There were also some pretty darn large Aspens. I know they're not great for climbing...but an ascent or two would be cool. Just hang and listen to the quaking.

I did have the opportunity to climb some Western Junipers this summer on Monitor Pass in the high Sierras. At the time I wasn't familiar with basel anchors. This year I will return with a more optimal approach. They're cool, and the location is cool, but your climb/tree looked spectacular.
Thanks all. I don't know how "competitive" I am, but I'd really enjoy running courses. I'll look into the Geezer group*
*I'm going through a rough patch. Last week a colleague said, "I hope when I'm your age..." I've never heard that before. Apparently I'm getting older. And...Oldoakman just...
The sit back is negligible. Works like a charm! I started thinking about what I was connecting to the swing arm. I have my chest or over the shoulder lanyard. But I was also attaching my knee ascender bungee. In pondering that away from the climb, I think I was working against the self-orienting...
Good morning.
This past summer/fall I traveled to Oregon to watch a tree climbing competition. I learned a great deal. Two of the big lessons were: fluidity and I’m on the right path, but the path is long.
I kept thinking that what was missing from the event was a space for the recreational...
