climber hit in face while doing a removal

No hard hats, but the guy on the ladder is wearing a harness and also holding the belay line in his hand, the guy to the left of the ladder is wearing a harness and is also holding the belay line, the photo could have been taken right after the guy was lowered to the ground.

Are you under legal road height with the boom on the deck like that?

crane flips in Chester County pa

That's like saying you dont need a mini skid cause you can carry wood, or you don't need a chipper cause you can throw brush in the back of your pickup. The same could be said for using the crane, skills would have kept the dirty side down.

Also interesting that the boom still has tip in that photo

Ok now that I can blow up the pic better, the rear outrigger has ripped out of the outrigger box and it's possible the front outrigger collapsed from the weight of the crane, I've heard of that before...from this forum I think.

The reason I said they may be bent is because there's a square metal thing like an outrigger pad by the fuel tank.

If it tipped at the outriggers the cribbing should be at the outriggers, doesn't matter if the outriggers were 7' long or 70' long

If they were the pads would probably be visible in the pics, also I see no reason to short set them.

The view from my office window

A big elm from this morning, forgot to pull the phone out till the stem. Then I got a call that somebody was having a crappy day, LOL I decided to turn down the job of flipping the tractor trailer manure spreader back over when I found out it was fully loaded because it would likely be too...

There's something odd about the first photo of the crane you posted, the outriggers on the driver's side are fully retracted... weird I looked at the pic in the article again, the outriggers could be bent under the crane, but something really messed up would have to happen for them to get there...

    Another NY Fatality

That was a hell of a discussion. Does anybody know if Morbark's new Chipsafe system belongs to Jomoco? Or is it something Morbark designed themselves, possibly from his idea?

    Close call

Not sure of his exact mindset, but the shorter the boom(less cable out) the less sway in the line and the easier the load is to control. That's no excuse to 2block though.

Not a bad idea. It teaches them to feed brush and walk away too. It doesn't feed any better when you're standing at the table watching it.

We have 2 ladders like that a 40' and a 50', they never get used and I do mean NEVER, because it takes that many guys to stand them up.
