This is very strange. We have some of the best soil around here that I've ever seen in my life...so-called "fine sassafras sandy loam," basically lots of organic material mixed into an alluvial deposit left in a gigantic river delta (Susquehanna) when the glaciers receded and the Chesapeake Bay...
I showed that to my English pointer bitch (bird dog) just now and she was like
I always thought it would be hilarious to get an African gray parrot and teach it to issue commands like "lie down" and "sit up pretty" and "give me your paw" to the bird dog and force the dog to comply...now THAT...
I had an allergic reaction once after getting stung by some ground hornets so I agree: slag em all.
This summer we've had SWARMS of dragonflies...they seem to keep the biters/stingers in check.
I once bought a can of stuff, it was a white and red and black can, I think it was branded "Spectracide" but it also had a line of text in bold that talked about "47,000 volts" or words to that effect. I never understood what "47.000 volts" meant, but it knocked down the orneriest hornets you've...
I think the key there is keeping the flashlight off until you're ready to pull the trigger on the hornet killer. I have had some kind of bees/wasps/hornets (not sure what kind) come out at night while I was welding, of all things. They seem to be attracted to the arc flash.
Never had any...
More like shooting somebody in the head while they snore.
I've done it at least a dozen times and I've never had the hornets do anything more than fall off the nest twitching after they were hit with hornet killer...doing it at night is the key. They're basically asleep at that point and very...
I learned on DdRT and just started switching over to SRT. Went with a Unicender but found that it gives me the heebie jeebies a bit on SRT – not for any legitimate reason, really, but I tend to listen to my gut – so I switched to Hitch Hiker 2 for the time being and I feel a lot more confident...
I stumbled across this "Bull Hitch" recommendation for use with biners the other day, sounds like a good idea. It's just a girth hitch with a twist but seems to hold a bit better.
Somewhere along the line a couple months back I saw a video where a guy was rigging down a big tree and a big piece of the tree swung around and hit the spar right next to the arborist, and it looked like it would have killed the guy if it had hit him ... is this the same guy? That video scared...
So sorry to hear this Treetopflyer. I feel for ya. Had to put down my beloved pointer bitch last spring and it was the hardest thing I ever had to do. Be glad for the time you had with him and, when the time is right, think about getting another dog. I think they love people even more than we...
The first photo reminds me of hackberry, but the three-lobed leaves don't fit, and the bark on the tree doesn't look like hackberry...the bark reminds me of a maple, so maybe it is box elder...?
Goop removes a LOT of stuff...never used it on rope but will keep it in mind. I know it takes green epoxy off your hands and tools...I think it's the jojoba oil in it that cuts so much crud.
I also use mineral spirits to take sap off biners and hands, not sure whether it's safe for rope.
