    Flying squirrels

I use dotted glazing on the windows of my home adjacent the bird feeders and it is extremely effective a preventing bird strikes. The brand I bought is called “FeatherFriendly” https://featherfriendly.com/

Are living trees warmer than dead trees?

I “believe” living trees are warmer than dead ones because here where the snow used to typically lie deep in the bush as winter advanced, one could see a snow free ring crater around the root flare of every living tree, and none around the dead trees. It was also clear that the bigger the tree...

“Unusual Birds” & Trees in your area ?

Around here the woodpeckers are stripping great swathes of outer bark off the ash trees as shown - I’m presuming it’s to get at the EAB.

“Unusual Birds” & Trees in your area ?

It’s either the “Mourning Dove” or the aptly named “Red Bellied Woodpecker“. The others are (just for interest) the “American Tree Sparrow“, the “male Northern Cardinal”, the “Black Capped Chickadee“, the “Gold Finch” and the “Blue Jay”.

“Unusual Birds” & Trees in your area ?

I’ve recently updated my wildlife photography set up, and what with the contemporary gear being over 12 pounds lighter, and slowing down my forestry activities, l’m out with the birds almost every fair day. Although these birds are not unusual, they are in trees, and I couldn’t resist sharing...

    Wood pellet cat litter

We’ve been using “sWheat scoop” which is made from wheat, compostable, clumping, and available at Walmart or Amazon. Some say it’s expensive, but it’s very pleasant to work with and makes an excellent addition to the compost pile.

    What is this?

It sure looks like a variety of concrete cutting chain. They are generally diamond impregnated and can cost $$.

    Using a 7/32" (5.5 mm) round file for 13/64" (5.16 mm) chain?

It cuts better. Don’t be shy to use those 5.5s.

    Tree Work Vehicles

As you can see here I’m in another league from you guys, but anyway… This is a prototype test “general purpose bush cart” - although I really liked the generous wheels (from the old drill seeder) they proved too heavy for hilly terrain. About 4 years ago I developed this beauty and although...

    Stihl Clone Saws???

Fortunately at my local multi-brand (Stihl, Husky, Echo, etc.) chain saw dealer they are always keen to rent out any of the saws on the used rack (where there are typically some long bar, large displacement “beauties”) for a nominal fee - in hopes of making a sale. These saws are in tip top form...
