I've been running alkylate (Tru Fuel/Motomix) exclusively for a few years now. No problems at all. I heard a story from a saw collector on another forum who has had a test running for the last ten years. He's had a saw on the shelf with a tank of motomix in it, and once every year he grabs it...
I was thinking that the success of the SafeBloc systems kind of makes the case that one ring can be used as the terminal. That initial hit on the THT is basically a single ring up at the top, and rope seems to handle the bend just fine. Still loving the rings, all of them.
tREX is dyed to a much higher standard than Tenex. It is also very waxy, which is good for fuzzing, but can make splicing it a bit more difficult (still super easy).
I like it a lot so far, see no reason to go back to Tenex.
Sounds like the whipped ends and the wrench might have contributed to the cover bunching up.
Sirus has good abrasion resistance. I've beat the living hell out of this section for about a year and a half now. Pulled vehicles, choked and skidded logs, used as a bridle multiple times hauling...
Engage chain break whenever the saw is not in immediate use.
I think one handing is just a reality. It's just to useful to disregard totally, and I bet we all do it.
Since it's being discussed, one issue that has not been brought up, and is somewhat contentious, is the "edge" issue with the hard coat. Once the coating wears through, the underlying aluminum is exposed, and softer than the coating above it. Consequently it wears a groove in the ring with a...
That makes a lot of sense Kevin. All I was trying to do was take a bunch of stretch out of the pull line, which in this case was enough to get things moving in the right direction.
Cheers
I've tried it both ways. I prefer running off the becket. No real reason, setback is about the same with both.
Here's a 3:1 set on the 5:1 for a bit of a back leaner.
You've never encountered a less than perfect TIP in the course of a removal? If given the choice between a lighter duty TIP for a better work position VS a bomber one with no work position component in a rec climb. . .
Good point on the prussik cord. In line with that, we did a little destructive testing of 10mm AP with an old 5/8 line locked off and a vehicle pulling. The cover was fuzed to the host line, but the core was undamaged .
Very good Tom. Also, watch out for the rope in the MA system when releasing tension, it can move deceptively fast through the pulleys and will burn/cut through clothing and skin easily.
I use this on the ground. It's easy enough to set a 3:1 to pull on the 5:1. You can get some serious tension on a pull tree. Usually pull a bunch of the stretch out of 5/8" Arborplex and let her rip.
