what blocks/pulleys are you using for mechinal advantage ?

just a suggestion, XRR can be used when the MA is for pulling over a tree and the MA system is at risk for being hit.

jeff im one of those guys who sets up a 3:1 when i need it, but have recently thinking about having a set up ready to deploy. but i've gotten pretty good at setting up a 3:1 pretty fast

The company I currently work for used to assemble a 3:1 every time they needed it, until they saw how quickly I could pull out my personal 5:1 setup. Always rigged, stored in its own backpack, ready to go in only a minute and includes progress capture.
Sometimes the trees just fall over with fear at the sight of it.

I often build 3:1 but extra or a 2nd line or using other trunks to have a system that's continuous and won't close

I've used xrr for ma but they add system friction so they don't give the same pulling ease or power for pulling

I keep a pre-built 4:1/5:1 rigged and ready to go. Its just too darn simple and fast not to.

Have about 14' of travel between resets, ive never used it up and needed more.

Progressive capture at either end (selectable depending on setup), able to prusik onto host line without sacrificing any usable length of host line, ease and speed of setup and teardown, its just a winning piece of kit IMHO.

my 5:1 is made with 150' of 1/2" samson db

5:1 Petzel double pulleys with some Samson 1/2" line and for serious pulls ill try to get the grcs on it. Gotta be careful with preloading, don't want to barber chair.

Tom (Old Fart on the Buzz) made a video of an awesome, we'll thought out 5:1 that quickly covered to a continuous pull system. I'll see if I can find it.

people should post more random rigging pictures, right?

Question, for progress capture. Do you like an eye to eye as tight to the pulley as practical or a prussic loop the gives slack and room between the knot and the Becket on the pulley?

I use a prussic loop that is run on the side of the carabiner and grabs over the rope as it enters the pulley. a little slack shouldn't effect the performance of this progress capture.

I've tried it both ways. I prefer running off the becket. No real reason, setback is about the same with both.

Here's a 3:1 set on the 5:1 for a bit of a back leaner.

Is there a reason you put the 3:1 on to the 5:1?
On learners I usually run the 5 on to a longer 3 so I get my ma of 15 to stand it up and often once the 5 is closed I can just keep pulling the 3 to finish it off.
Just like to know the method to the madness.

That makes a lot of sense Kevin. All I was trying to do was take a bunch of stretch out of the pull line, which in this case was enough to get things moving in the right direction.

Cheers
