    Husq 540iXP brake band issues

I'll check that out, thanks. And if I get the spare drive sprocket (what the band grabs) that I've been considering it'll be easy to compare 'em. "linkage"...from the brake handle to the brake itself?

    Ban bamboo.

Illinois' list: https://extension.illinois.edu/invasives/trees-and-shrubs And, unrelated to the quote above, "slippery slope" about <topic> is *exactly* the same thing as "society may not regulate anything related to <topic> at all, ever". Which is patently ridiculous. [edit: the above...

    Husq 540iXP brake band issues

I'll give it a shot. Have certainly had that succeed in other contexts. Nothing caught my eye during the 1st repair but a closer look never hurts. Just theorizing, however, I have trouble imagining what sort of defect could lead to this.

    Husq 540iXP brake band issues

and FYI...what makes this problem harder to notice is that the saw also cuts power to the motor when the chain brake is engaged. So even with the brake band broken the chain stops pretty much like one would expect, just not quite as quickly. The first time it happened I had no idea until...

    Husq 540iXP brake band issues

I'll try. Have to stop by the shop anyway to order replacement(s). But with little hope; in my limited experience Husq's explanation is always "you're doing it wrong". Maybe, though I have trouble imagining what with the saw, other than material defects in the band itself, could possibly...

    Husq 540iXP brake band issues

I bought a 540iXP (rear handle, battery) in late 2024. Just over 1 year later, the brake band broke. The replacement lasted about as long; this past weekend I found it broken again. This pic is the 1st break; the 2nd one broke about 1/8" / 3 mm more to the left (away from the curved end)...

    Hedging

The last portion ("Part Four: Heartwood") of "Wildwood -- A Journey Through Trees" by Roger Deakin is mostly about things along these lines, and they sound pretty cool. Led to me bookmarking https://www.hedgelaying.org.uk/ though I doubt I'll ever be industrious enough to attempt anything...

    Los Angeles area fatality

A 20-year worker fell from a palm and died yesterday, Monday, 1 Dec. I hesitate linking to the NY Post since it's a sensationalistic gossip rag, but of 5-6 media sources I checked it's the only one that includes several details (which seem likely to be correct) -- that this was an occupational...

    Line launcher

With my air launcher I've found that I do better setting the PSI so a vertical launch would top out a bit but not too much above my target (near as I can dial that in), and then launching as near vertical as practical. This means that I get a lot less arcing til near max height --> much less...

    Battery ground saws

Interesting. I've used a rear handle Husq 540i through the last two summers here, including 100+ heat indices, with no problems. This is with both the BLi300 and BLi200x batteries.

    TreeStuff $75 Ships-Today-Guarantee

This. This is why I rarely buy from TreeStuff any more. Last I knew (it's been a while), not only is stock status not shown on the product pages, it doesn't appear on one's order, or even *after* ordering. The only clue that something was backordered was when an order went days without...

    Kudos to Arbsession

I may have mentioned this as an aside in the past, but it deserves its own post -- Arbsession is an amazing vendor to buy from. With most vendors (tree-related or not, and excluding Amazon), it takes at least day or two after placing an order for them to say it's been shipped. And half the...

Can trees be too big to cable?

I think here: https://www.europeanarboriculturalstandards.eu/test ("test" in that URL isn't what it looks like; it stands for "Technical Standards in Tree Work")

Shoots of hope for Britain's cherished ash trees

BBC article saying that scientists are seeing British ash trees evolving some resistance to fungus-caused dieback. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cvg45zrex7jo

    Invasive Species Removal?

misc comments... The 7 or so groups I've worked with around here, some NGOs and others government bodies, all use burn piles to dispose of their debris. Some treat stumps with Garlon, others use glyphosate. I don't know their mixes but on my property 20% - 40% glyphosate, water-based, works...
