Been here a while
I guess I still look at it kinda like we had in process engineering - corrosion allowance in piping = abrasion allowance in the tat we climb on . . . anyway . . .

I’ve read some manufacturers definition of ABS as average. Which is fairly meaningless as the range could be 100lbs to 10,000lbs with an average of 5,400. I’d hate to get the lower end.. I’m sure the margins are much tighter.. and likely within 3-10% max of each other but that is unpublished.Yeah, measured from TIP. in a hard fall, it would be generation 200% in a base tie scenario. The numbers get messy really fast. and thats assuming no other factors like friction, tree structure, dynamic properties.
Those terms do vary somewhat between manufactures, but not a ton.
SWLL and WLL are the same thing, just one is wearing high vis.
ABS/ Mean Breaking Strength is a really interesting in how they come up with those stats. Usually they use a negative standard deviation to come up with those breaking numbers, but I don't know the specific deviation that they use. So the rope manufactures are already erring on the side of caution when they say what the MBS of the rope is.

Min and Max breaking strength are typically not published numbers because they can vary a lot, and on their own they don't mean a whole lot.
The z does specifically state a breaking strength of 5,400lbs. but they dont describe how to get there and thats not what the standard is for.
Yeah, I love talking about rope.
I off to check..FYI Gap Arborist Supply has some great deals on ropes for a couple more days. I got 150' of Yale Tangent(Blue Moon, different colorway) for $85. They have another variation called Poison Moon that's on sale cheap now too.
Thanks bud. Just bought two ropes....vantage and poison moon.FYI Gap Arborist Supply has some great deals on ropes for a couple more days. I got 150' of Yale Tangent(Blue Moon, different colorway) for $85. They have another variation called Poison Moon that's on sale cheap now too.
I had a bouncy kernmaster save my ass once when my tip broke. I still climb with some of the most static lines..
last wesspur order I wanted to get a few screamers, best of both worlds but they aren’t carrying them anymore….
Thanks I’ll keep my eye out there. I also want to get one and cut the middle of the folded stitched webbing to use as a breakaway![]()
Screamers
Function: Shock absorbing sling designed to reduce peak loads in any climbing system!! Multi-functional energy absorbing device. Screamers will provide added protection in climbing and rescue situations. Screamers not only absorb energy directly because of the stitch ripping effect, but they...hownot2.com
This guy has them on the website. They say "sold out" but there is a notify me when in stock button
He does some interesting break tests on YouTube, most are for rock climbing applications but there is some crossover information.
Thanks I’ll keep my eye out there. I also want to get one and cut the middle of the folded stitched webbing to use as a breakaway
From yalecordage.com, they show an ABS of 6,200 for their 11.5. Arbsession also lists 6,200 as ABS. I think Wesspur's 5k ABS is just a typo. No clarification on elongation though. One thing I find very frustrating is the lack of info on elongation. Yale just says ‘low’. Derenline is too bouncy for me, xtatic is boarder line with much over 100’ tips..
Any one know the % of elongation.
Also abs of 5,000 lbs?! What happened to the 5,400 standard?

That’s very odd! Here is the Yale published info sheet from the wesspur data specs https://722337.app.netsuite.com/cor...Q5zOk3uySu4SIkaMP0Ubl28Lvql48cZXp-WR&_xt=.pdfFrom yalecordage.com, they show an ABS of 6,200 for their 11.5.
