Moss Cinching Lanyard prototype

Yeah, animal parts. As I mentioned about the one-eyed owl, there was so much on the ground, sometimes a perfectly halved rabbit. From what Arlo is saying sounds like mom might go back and get things like that. The rat was the hind end, hollowed out, nothing left except skin, rear legs and tail, maybe a discard ;-)

The Akimbo and Bulldog Bone should work really well with the Moss lanyard system because they make it really easy to switch back and forth from SRS to MRS, and can also be sucked up really tight to the spar in the SRS mode. That is a nice feature for spar work. Do you agree or am I missing something?Moss_akimbo.webpMoss_BDB.webp

I like my Quickie for midline basal anchors, it still has a home on my harness ;-)

Don't get me wrong, I still love the quickie and think it's very versatile, however I have moved to a ring and ring for canopy anchors and a screwlink or steel biner for cinching, because I can use those at work (no CE on the Quickie). When I still used knotted 10mm hitch cord I would use the quickie to attach the rope wrench to the HC pulley, great for that.

This is a "no friction" retrievable mode for a spar anchor, excels especially on a wider spar. I moved the shackle to the front eye, a bight is wrapped around the spar and the "spike" is installed. On retrieval the rope jumps off the spar, no friction involved.

I wouldn't work off it, this is set to get out of the tree. Theoretically it can handle infinite natural redirects although I wouldn't set it until I wanted out of the tree which is about the same is climbing back though redirects to clean up retrieval.

I'd already been developing this mode but got serious about it after the recent owl rescue. To get out of the tree I set my normal remote retrieval mode (rope cinched through the shackle) on the spar. On retrieval there was more friction around the spar than I wanted. It worked but I want it smoother and cleaner.

This would work as a retrievable base anchor for access not working, the retrieval line would attach to the top loop on the paddle.

The paddle locks in super tight, when the line is loaded I don' think it can be pulled out by arm power alone.

Not sure if my last post went through. But giving the moss shackle lanyard set up a good test run today on some removals. I love this retrievable anchor while working a spar. So clean and simple! You can set it up with an alpine butterfly, but I will be using the the later method with the Prusic cord keeping things more tidy and stowed away until ready for use. Less chance of the retrieval loop getting stuck on the carabiner this way. So many options love it!

Ian you are the leading ambassador for the "Moss Shackle"! I need to up my game and build some more. Too many owl and cat rescues lately, not to mention my massively backed up tree work client list. It's kind of lame when I tell a customer, "Sorry had to do a cat rescue this morning", and then look at my dwindling checking account. It's complicated ;-)

Haha Awesome! Hoping to get some go pro footage tomorrow utilizing this magnificent tool! How do i up load on tree buzz? sometimes it says file is to big.

I’m charging up the go pro to do some quick clips of the multi use rope friendly moss shackle. Here is a choking configuration for spar work. To remove the slic pin just orient the catch so you can depress it with your fore finger and thumb by squeezing the hitch cord eye. Works mint!

Best thing to do is upload your video to YouTube or Vimeo and then link to it from your treeBuzz post. There’s a “Media” dropdown action you click on the “dot dot dot downward arrow” icon in the edit actions bar above where you write or edit a post. Copy and paste the video URL from say YouTube into the “Media” edit box. It’s difficult to describe how to do this ;-)

Arlo, send me that Quickie and I'll send you back a slic pin bow shackle! And a sadly empty Quickie ;-) Just a heads up, a small detail... you're all sworn to secrecy lest Weaver or Notch product development is spying on this highly sensitive secret discussion... I put shrink tubing on the two sides of the second eye that holds the shackle. I noticed pretty quickly that taking the slic pin in and out when it is going through the eye (what I usually do with the bow shackle) picks rope strands.

The way you have the Quickie set up is perfect for a remotely cinched/removable anchor and clearly does not require shrink tube protection on the eye.

Hey, AJ have any bow shackles made up? I have a quickie that I would love to swap out for one

Been ultra busy, it’s been raining owlets, lots of nest work happening. I’m taking a slight turn here, i’m having the next couple I make pull tested so we know what we’re dealing with, i’ll post when the test results are in.

Hi hello, sorry to derail. The cinch has changed my life. Been keeping up with the thread as much as possible but it's a frickin novel lol. Just have a couple quick questions. If I just use a carabiner, wrap the lanyard around the trunk and clip it back onto the lanyard rope, the carabiner pressed against the trunk is not considered side loading? Also, this removes you from the circle of death correct?

Whether that's sideloading is a matter of debate and depends on the diameter of the trunk or limb. A steel carabiner is the best choice when using a carabiner.
