Yes, a distinct possibility. I find it incredibly sad that such a large percentage of Americans are that gullible and their opinions that easily manipulated. Not surprising, I suppose, when one considers the nation's average literacy has fallen to something like 49th in the World, with many Third World countries better educated. And much of the US still has very profound isolationist tendencies, which work against the country functioning in a beneficial way in a Global community. Patriotism can be a double-edged weapon, when it goes beyond merely being proud of one's country and starts tending towards a conceited attitude that a given people are better than everyone else and more deserving. This is how wars and national declines begin.
