RE Akimbo setting and rope

Sorry it took a bit, gave my Blue Moon to the climber in training and had to borrow one from the other foreman.

My Tachyon and Bandit (outside of listed diameter) do not work well, the arms have to almost touch to start to move...
Blue Moon has been really smooth, easy to start descent, and the arms remain at a distance from each other during the descent as shown in the manual.

Petition to rename the 'arms' to 'jaws'

My kid calls my akimbo the Chomper

Really enjoyed the ride today on km3max. I think my favorite rope so far. Easy to engage and smooth sailing down. Grabbed reliably unless vertical by tip the akimbo would slip down rope until I leaned back. Had it at E4

Any htp users? Or did I miss that somewhere in the thread. (Not an akimbo owner, but dreaming)

ok sorry if this is a faq but when people say "Yale 11.7" which rope are they talking about?

there's kernmaster, poison ivy, scandere, etc, all 11.7.

thanks.

They mean poison ivy, blue moon, aztec, blue tongue and there's probably others. The 24 strand 11.7mm. Not the kernmantle ropes.

Is kernmaster 11.7?

Yo, I’ve gave this device so many shots on blue moon and it’s still is difficult and jerky. I’ve tried every combo and it still stops short. I will try on imori tomorrow but I’m not happy with this.
Had to address the spring cam from sticking while during a climb.

Hate to say this but I just went from Imori to Blue Moon. My Imori has a few seasons on it though and is fairly fuzzy (which makes it ideal for my HH2).

I’m trying xstatic Saturday. If it doesn’t do better I’m selling this thing.
I have found success in the drenaline and km3max 11mm is my fav so far. Also my hank of dragonfly came yesterday and I’ve heard that rope works well with it too. Xstatic works at A1 for me

Just wait. I'm in the same boat. Jamie has a video coming out on the finer points of adjustment. Don't sell before it comes public. I'm not. I don't wanna sell because I'm too stupid to understand this thing called the Akimbo. I'll be sorry I did when its finally clicks then I'll have to wait another 3 years to get one. LOL

What ropes have you tried Steve?

Ok. Fine.

:) I didn't want to say anything but I was hoping one or a few of you would give up and put your unit up for sale for $135. I would like more.

If this was at all serious how about adding up your total climb weight, factoring in climb style - agressive/timid, and conditions - new rope/old, rain/dry etc, and do what already works for someone else as a starter?

I hope to have the video up soon. There is a lot going on with this device. Jumpy descent could be needing a tighter setting on the bottom jaw (if the jaws are not touching on descent) or a looser setting on the bottom if the jaws are touching hard. It’s all about balancing the friction between the top and bottom. Once you get a feel for that you might find that tighter settings work well and you don’t need to open things up as much.

Obligatory safety warning: don’t run someone else’s settings unless you test them yourself first. Rope condition and climber weight are extremely variable and no two setups are the same. I second the point about new ropes being slippery. There is lubricant on them from manufacturing and a good wash goes a long way to making them grip nicely.

As to use on mrs. Hand positioning makes a big difference in performance. I position my hand like I would for the unicender on mrs and squeeze the top and bottom jaws together. This gives more control and less jumpiness. I also use it kind of like a Blake’s on a split tail.
