New Tendon Timber Ropes

If it’s quality and want to play with the big boys don’t go cheap. Go competitive otherwise your only market will be bargain discount arbs (which is a huge demographic), but not a good way to build cred.
I can think of a few key features many of the domestic suppliers are missing. Not that I think we have crap for selection but really how many freakin colors and names does one need for the same rope (Yale 11.7’s). And then how many clones do you need of the same construction (Samson velocity series)..
 
Well I was tagged. Send me a 150’ or 200’ hank and I’ll review it. I’m pretty partial to Yale’s 11.7 series. Pretty much my go to rope. I rotate over 1000’ of it in my climbing. I can use it SRT and Ddrt ( sorry I’m not gonna use the newest acronyms) on several different systems. I’m open to demo a product
 
Cool to see these products are coming to market here. You messaged me last year through Mountain Project inquiring about general rope prefernences. I’m still interested in dry coating, as is common on rock climbing ropes, in tree care. Does Tendon have arbor lines in the works that meet UIAA water repellency requirements? I think it would be great for those wet and muddy jobs.
 
yah I am up for a freebie test hank of rigging line,
"if you can make it I can try and break it"
but in all serious I have used / abused so many different brands / types of ropes over many years I would give your product a genuine review including my instagram page if you take the time to send something to the bottom of the arse end of the world.

I recently purchased this 3/4 block but I feel it needs an accompnying new rigging line with a
similar colour scheme - that would be ideal in a video .

Nothing yet in this area. I'm not sure if it's because of the hoops to jump through for industry certification or if dry coatings don't work as well with polyester. I get a chance to meet with them a few times a year so I'll continue to talk to them about this idea.

Thanks Brocky. Tendon has very advanced braiding machines, many of which were recently updated and/or replaced in the last couple of years.

I did some additional digging for information from Tendon this morning and learned that their line of Timber ropes were developed with feedback from a local university near them, that has a large Forestry department specializing in managing and caring for forests and trees. They don't have any official details from them, but you can be assured that professional arborists have not only used and approved of these ropes, but helped to develop them with characteristics that they can appreciate.

They were tested to have 0mm sheath slippage. So, while real world use can often bring out different results than lab tests, you can be pretty confident that there is a very minimal amount of milking with these ropes.

Interesting, didn’t think about the differences in material. As far as I’ve read it seems like dry treatments increase abrasion resistance and rope life. It would be a unique feature.

Is this similar the “Secure” and “compact” technologies from the Tendon sport line? Are they similar to “unicore” braiding other brands utilize?

I'll be honest, I'm not sure how the design and rating were achieved. They could have used the Secure and compact technologies to achieve this, but I don't have that info. Tendon doesn't always share their "secrets" and I haven't dismantled any of the Timber ropes yet. Perhaps I'll have to do that sometime soon.

@Stihlmadd -- First, we'll have to break him of his habit of dumpster diving for a new wardrobe when he needs it. I'm thinking we need pics of him doing tree work in Australia wearing a silk Armani suit and alligator shoes, just because that shit would be funny as hell. This is assuming we can get him into a bathtub, first.

@rico -- A pair of leather, Rock Hudson designer jeans with the button-down flap in the back. A gold ring in his nose, and a pair of Vise Grip nipple clamps. Nothing else. I believe he already has this particular wardrobe in his closet, if we can ever get him to come out of there.

@evo -- We'll just take him to Bloomingdale's and let him pick something out from the Hello Kitty line of clothing, but he has to promise not to wear his MAGA hat.

@Worthaug -- Makes no difference what we pick out for him... he'll just be frolicking in the treetops, naked, after his second beer.

Regardless of the difficulties and challenges, I still think we could produce a quality calendar that people aren't likely to forget for quite a long time.
