I think if they "congress or president" choose to stop functioning, they should have their healthcare, pay, staff, travel, accommodations, and security frozen until it is resolved - they should also feel the pain that federal employees.

So, yeah, I still send my payroll taxes, need to file and pay my quarterly.

All this for a wall, that most Americans don't want, that Mexico was going to pay for, that is supposedly already paid for by the new NAFTA agreement that hasn't been enacted, and which he already had the funding for with DACA attached, but walked away from when he had both houses.

No wonder he went bankrupt 6X

If you want to join the resistance then as April 15th approaches if you are a small business owner (S Corp, LLC, Partership) than resist the new Section 199A deduction for 2018 federal tax returns. This new deduction is a very nice tax break for small business owners, many here I assume.

Ask your tax professional - most of us will be happy.

Makeing American Great Again.

1. As I have said maybe a dozen times here, Trump drives me crazy on a daily basis too. I don't despise him, but yeah, he infuriates me. A lot.

2. @rico, I agree totally. They should have done the wall first thing. The tax cut is great too, but not as pressing as national security. (BTW, I've benefitted significantly from the tax cut, and you'll have to take my word that I'm not among "the richest of the rich"). I'm not suggesting that the shutdown is not affecting people. But those it is affecting are almost uniformly better off than most of us. And they'll get every cent of their back pay. Boo hoo.

3. Not sure any of you clicked the link. Dems wanted a wall. Thought it was a great idea under Obama:

"In 2019, the federal government will spend a whopping $4.407 trillion. Yet Congress and the president are shutting down the government in a dispute between the $1.3 billion the Democrats have approved for border security and the $5.7 billion the president is demanding — the difference being precisely 0.0998 percent of the total federal budget. In Washington, that is considered a rounding error."

"Pelosi supported the Gang of Eight bill, saying at the time that “every piece of this legislation has had bipartisan support” (emphasis added). But now we are shutting down the government over a wall much like the one that Pelosi and Senate Democrats fully supported just five years ago?"

For the record, I'd be cool with significantly increased border security, regardless of method. Walls, electronic surveillance, increased Border Patrol, lava filled moats, etc. I'm flexible. Let's admit that there are two parties that can end this. The Dems wanted the freakin wall just five years ago!!!

Nonsense Buck. A wall on our southern border has very littlest do with national security.
You know what does though? The 54,000 Customs and Border Proection Agent who are now working without pay. Yep. ironic aint it?
How bout the TSA Agents who make $19 an hour while having the massive responsibility of making sure some crazy mutherfucker doesn't blow up another plane.
We won't talk about the the enlisted Coastguard who made a paltry $20,000 a year before Trump forced them to work without pay, or the Homeland Security employee who is also being forced to work without pay. Who is gonna feed their babies, keep the lights on, pay the mortgage, and throw the dog a fucking bone?

A wall/border has everything to do with national security. I'll assume you have doors on your house Rico? And maybe those doors even have locks? Why? Are you RACIST? That's the only possible justification for a border, right? (Sarcasm)

To paraphrase what Trump said, "You don't put up walls (or locked doors) because you hate those outside, you put them up because you love those on the inside."

I dont even know why I reply, but I guess I'm a triggered snowflake who has lost touch with reality and am part of the deep state with delusions about Russia.

1. Why didn't he build it when he had both house majorities and a FULL (35 billion) funding offer with DACA attached?

He doesnt want a wall - he wants a straw man

2. He loves those inside so much, he asks them to work without pay? Thats like me saying, I love my wife and kid so much I'm going to take food off the table and stop paying our bills until I get a big and beautiful fence outside that I promise my neighbor will pay for because I'm stealing his cable.

3. Most illegal immigration happens where there is already a fence, through airports, and drugs come through ports and tunnels.

4. Drugs are an issue - treat the disease. Not a dime has been added for treatment...they have just shuffled money and put a ribbon on it.

5. My walls support my roof, which keeps the house warm - this is a ridiculous analogy. My house isn't the size of the southern border. I've never had a migrant break into my house or steal shit - but I've had meth heads steal shit.

Ironically though, all my neighbors employee immigrants as handymen, lawn care, housekeepers, and nanny's- most of them have keys to the places they take care.

Time for a Kit-Kat

If Trump was less of a piece of shit, he wouldn't hold Americans hostage for ransom.
What a fucking asshat.

Hey Southsound, I think we need to police ourselves a bit here. One thing I like about the Buzz is that people generally remain civil and and restrain themselves from going too far off the rails. It is a tough time, but I think we need to hang together and get through this without encouraging violence.

Pick the source you prefer

I'm less worried about immigrants than residents.

Once again Woody Guthrie's line from Pretty Boy Floyd rings in my ears...

Some will rob you with a Six gun
And some with a fountain pen

Reminds me of the song "Here in California by Kate Wolf" where her mom says
"Child take your time
Love can make you happy
Or love can rob you blind"

So much truth in three short lines.

If it's a bit much just skip to around 5 minutes... Bout sums up how I feel about our current situation.

I had the realization today that Im of the last adult generation that will remember a world before climate change, the thought came to me as I was passing drought killed tree after tree.. It's not going to be the same ever again.
