Tips and Tricks

Hey Tom!
i guess the best tip is to never stop L-earning; and keep jewels from the past
i think one i got from here is using a semi-truck tire spoon in tree for lever/instead of wedging.
.
i must warn on normal corner traps and ties; they take extra care.
It is best if a sling rotates wear positions, isn't fixed/tied i think.
.
Within that leaves corner traps w/free ranging sling;
i Learned this lesson the hard school way; onsite with audience fancy speedline/slings before they were cool;
luckily that day the only co$t was pride and rep in front of someone i contracted from a lot;
not the tragedy and property damage that it could have been.
But then took me weeks to figure out/explain
>>because i was being asked not to use slings or speedline on his jobs any more;
>>i was the only oddball in area using krabs,slings, speed line, port-a-wrap, colored rope etc...
If 1 leg of sling folds thru gate, it can make a shear line on trap!
This can work many times under light loading, then come apart under heavy loading.
This can look like normal sling/krab set, especially with a hand full of 'em!
Without corner trap, sling disarms/falls off and CAN'T be used, trap allows it to be used!!

i always think it is more proper to wedge and rope (as added forces) to the face as a direction,
to force a stronger hinge as a persistent multiplier(even after wedge/rope force removed)
.
NOT pull/wedge across face, against side lean
as a TEMPORARY, nominal(just what force is to hinge, not multiplied more) ballast against sideLean.
Rope pulls after tree moving weakens/stresses formed hinge more if into face,
>>might be of some help though against sideLean at this point.
.
This has saved a lot of work:

Hi Ken, do you know of any advantages of having a retrieval shackle that is adjustable? It has been a while since I have used DdRT and I can't think of one. In fact I just disassembled one I made of tenex a little over ten years ago. Looked brand new but just got too old.

I side with swing on this one. Trying to flake the line into that coffee can surrounded by evil twigs, would be a great task for an anger management class. :mad: BTW, I only fold my throw cube in half for storage. If you fold it again the line tangles.
