The local Baptist and Methodist churches team up on some of their mission trip “doings”. My niece’s husband (Jimmy) is the Baptist youth minister and asked me to help out with a project of theirs.
To get the youngsters interested in their projects (house repairs, community svc., etc.) they show videos of some of the work they have done...they are putting together a video with a Mission Impossible 3 type theme to get the young folk’s attention. The bad guy will kidnap one of the main characters to prevent them from being able to help folks in need...the heroes will be called in by “headquarters” to accept/deny the mission of rescuing the kidnapee so that the community service mission can continue.
Part of the video will be showing the exciting/adventuresome training that is done getting ready for a mission. They asked me to help with some of the setup...all that to say:
I made a 150 foot zip line....and played my first gig as a stunt double.
Ekka has, once again, been kind enough to host a video for me...thanks, Ekka.

There is a pond at my father’s house. I set my 150' Stable braid (9/16) about 35 feet up (anchor bowline) and we used the john boat to get the rope across the pond. I took the rope to a tenex sling and block, set up a 2:1 z-rig and got the line good and tight.
All setup was done using my regular tree gear...homemade big shot, Ness saddle, new Velocity rope with “Splices by Nick”, good PPE, etc. Moment of truth time, though, doesn’t call for getting the good stuff wet. I tied a Swiss seat, did the Ddrt up in that (not real comfortable but it works), hooked in to the safety line I had waiting (2 biners on webbing around a limb), set the pulley (CMI with a trapeze bar under that), verified both videos were on, put on the ski mask, counted to three and Geronimo-ed it.
Jimmy and Mike (his lil’ brother) had used an underwater, infra-red fishing camera to scope out the drop zone for limbs, stumps, tires, etc. All was clear...we had at least 6-7 feet of obstruction-free water...covered in mill weed, a type of coarse, grainy algae.
We got 3 good zips out of the line before taking it back down...a lot of work, but a fun job for a good cause. This footage is from one camera...a second camera was in the boat...I don’t have that footage yet.
