zigzag

nice toy, but it's a step backwards from a cord friction hitch, count me out.

Wonder if anyone has tested it with a ropewrench. bet it would work....bet its expensive.

I think it's interesting. The integrated swivel is a good idea. I'd wonder about how that rack will wear. It kind of looks like the spiderjack and unicender had a baby.

For work I'll stick with rope on rope for the most part as well.

I think it would be more of a success if it were mid line attachable. I also climb rope on rope for DdRT because it is way less expensive to splice my own hitch cords then to buy a spiderjack or similar. I think price will be a huge factor whether or not this hits the ground running. If it's cheaper then the spiderjack I am betting a lot of climbers will jump on it.

Had wet freezing weather lately and that lump of a friction hitch still worked as bad as it always did. Anything mechanical would of been dangerous.

As stated above, I think price will be the deciding factor. I imagine if the spiderjack/lockjack had a better price point you would see everyone with them.

I like the idea, but why would I pay that much money to replace say a vt and hitch climber? The only thing I can think of is if you burn through hitch cords at a rapid pace. 6-7 over the course of lets say 8 months and your close to the price of this thing. I think competition folks would love it.

This thing is smooth as butter, no lie. I've played with it on the show floor. Never been a big fan of any mechanical hitches, but this may change that. It feels so much like a friction hitch, but runs way, way smoother. Word on the show floor is it runs great with a rope wrench srt as well. I'll most likely be picking one up too try. Price is $275.

BTW, it is rated for SRT ascent if backed up, and they say in an emergency you can descend on it with a figure 8 or munter below to add friction. So it will hold you on a single line.

But Adrian, I can descend a single line on a munter alone, without the Zig Zag. I imagine that ascending with munter or a figure eight in line is impossible.

I wasnt impressed with the video, nice tree, but the techniques and methods used didnt jive with how I do things.

Cool though, I would certainly give it a try. Petzl has always been known for producing a top quality product.

I saw this used at the hawaii comp and it was incredibly smooth. I like to keep things simple so haven't used any mechanical hitches that have been out, but after seeing this in use I'm definitely interested.
