ZigZag side load testing

Could they have loaded/tested it on the face and the back as well as collapsed and uncollapsed. Or atleast shown it is capable of being loaded xyz without fear of failure

That's good! It happens sooner or later, you have to smear your multicender loaded descending pressed against a limb. It's reassuring with say a Rope Wrench because the tether typically flexes. I guess the question is cycles to failure on side-loading the Zig-Zag over time. Ideally no climber is going to be sideloading the device enough to cause a problem.

I don't think they're demonstrating how it can be abused. Obviously I wouldn't drag my Rope Runner sideways over a lamb either. When I do make it controlled run over a limb I make sure the links are facing the correct direction. It can take it.
It is nice to know if you took a little fall and jammed it up against something it's not going to come apart and drop you. Like taking a fall on a climbing line or anything else, you've probably exceeded some limitation and would not use it again.

that test is extremely hard to replicate in a real world situation.
For sure, one can only imagine how lucky a person would be to swing so hard and get stopped by a limb that narrowly missed the head. Other situations of such cross loading would be and are very preventable. Same with the RR, seems obvious but don't abuse your life support gear and don't hold the manufactures accountable for said abuse. It would be a different story if there was no reasonable way to get a device over a limb without doing damage to it.

I bought my ZZ to use for crane work only. No side loading. It's also on it's own dedicated rope in a tube bag, ready to go.
