zahn r300 reviews request!!

We demoed an r300 the same day we demoed a SK800 late last fall. I really like the thought of the wheeled unit for decreasing turf damage but the gas engine really bogged down when trying to do anything more than one movement at a time. While turning you couldn’t lift the arm or curl and lift at the same time without the engine bogging down. A small diesel option would be sweet. The SK800 was no comparison as far as lift and speed. I know that isn’t a fair comparison. We have a lot of work in back yards with fairly large wood usually so we ended up going with a vermeer 925tx instead. If you were only doing trimming and small removals the zahn would be really nice.

@treebing How's the machine after the first year, figure out the exhaust issue? Do you have a grapple on yours, and if so, how's that affect the lift and height capacities? Seriously considering one of these, great input here so far.

Serf, my friends at Bartlett Tree have had one for almost 8 years.

They are happy with it for the most part however they have broken the axle on a few occasions (dual wheel).

The lifting power seems comparable to my Dingo 323.

Honestly I wish that DW would come out with a Zahn that is bigger.

A stand behind articulating loader is definitely the best choice in my area where there are a lot of nice lawns.

You can make tire chains if needed. If pneumatic tires, not foam filled, let out some air, install chains, fill air pressure appropriately. No need for a cam-buckle/ tensioner mechanism. Maybe they make them. My friend was stuck in mud once, in a no-chain state. One homemade tire chain drove him right out.

I bought my first DW Zahn r300 Nov 2020 and I put a grapple on it and I love it! I was skeptical too at first. At the end of the day all those logs you would have loaded by hand you are now letting hydraulics take care of it. Yes I have a bigger Kubota to move the big wood. Lets face it we are all getting older and we are not going to be able to do the heavy lifting forever. And who wants a bad back from manhandling those biscuits out of a back yard when you can have a compact load do it for you. My Zahn goes out everyday. When it goes in for service we miss it big time. You wont be able to pick up the whole tree but you can take it little by little. At the end of the day your back will thank you!

PS we are looking to pick up a second one soon! follow my youtube channel socalarborist I'm posting more vides for my DW Zahn in action.
