Yet another chip truck build

Hoist located and being installed. Frame mount on right side is a little crude but it's solid. All said and done it'll be behind the toolbox and out of site.

I ended up getting all that rectangular tube for $221 at a different supplier. I'm glad I took the time to shop for it. Tomorrow the paver inside the shop comes out and my truck goes in. Still a lot left to be done but It'll all go together quicker once inside.

Stopped by the shop for awhile yesterday. Three guy's getting it all set up and laid out on the frame. Sub-frame and hinge assembly, hydraulic tanks located with brackets, etc. It's getting close. Hitch plate is sitting on the floor ....the one from the Star. :D
I didn't get any pics. Freakin dead battery. I don't care for the big hyd. tank hangin off the frame but I want to get the truck operational then I'll have a tank fabbed up to fit in the dead space forwards the scissor assembly and switch it out. I like the small tank right be hind the cab outside the frame. Only holds a gal but that's where the fill neck is. Don't have to reach between the frame rails to tend fluid level.
Lots of space for toolboxes. Eight feet of rail curb side and about six available out in traffic.
Not expecting much to happen over the next couple days. Up to 30''s of snow expected. We'll be plowin for a couple two - three days.
Anyone working out in this stuff in the NE be safe.

20170325_142850.webp 20170325_142915.webp 20170325_142951.webp Was at the shop a bit yesterday. One guy working there. Trucks only been worked on the past 2 weekends.
Tanks are mounted, pump and drive shaft, and hoses hoses. Body should have been close to or on by end of day. Going back down soon and see whats going on.

Just a quick update. The hydraulic tank system got scraped and I now have a 30gal tank on the side of the frame. Road side I only have 3' of tool box space. That's where the saw gas and oil will be found. I have about 8' of available space curb side. Something wouldn't function correctly with the 2 tank set up. In cab pump controls are in and the LED lights are installed in the body. Brakes are still on the list. So are the sides and barn doors. I'll be building a plywood top till I get an aluminum lid down the road. I have 4 plus sheets of 1/2'' plywood in storage already so ... I'll make use of it. Hitch is also installed and the "lower" bumper required by DOT.

I also learned of a new federal law stating all dump trucks must have a body up light installed in dash. I guess there is to many idiots wiping 0ut power lines, street lights and bridges. Nothing is grandfathered in. If you have a 1941 dump you need an idiot light. I'd bet there is a same law for booms. Wait ... that would make sense .... maybe there isn't.

Looking good! Its hard to tell how thick of steel you are using but looks like you might want to add a gusset to that drop down for your pivot pin. That thing hangs down a long ways

add a gusset to that drop down
I was watching them make it. They're 3/16 rec box. There is also 1/8 tubing inside the box for the pin hinge to ride in. I was thinking about that myself. These guys come to the shop on weekends. Weekdays they're found at truck equipment shop in the area. Shop has a great rep and good service. I'm getting my stuff done at a reduced rate. Once the brakes are done and its on the road I'm bringing it close to home so I can finish myself. I can't afford the time lost with a weekend only build. I'll be adding those gussets. Thanks for reminding me tc.

And the 30gal hydro tank. Way over kill! I'll probably use this on another build and make a tank in the frame space forwards of the hoist .... down the road.

Stopped by the shop while I had a couple minutes to kill last Sunday. Rear brakes got freshened up and that's about it.
On a side note .... something different to share.20170512_190405.webp 20170512_190353.webp 20170512_190343.webp 20170512_190340.webp 20170512_190332.webp 20170512_190324.webp 20170512_190319.webp This little guy was evicted yesterday along with his little brother. All last week Ive been working on a large commercial roof repair. Replacing all the eves and soffit with all new wood and new rubber roofing where the decking was replaced. My girl stopped by the job site and took them home. The little brother didn't make it through the night but this little bugger is feisty hungry and doing well. He's eating bird formula from the pet store and bits of wax worms. We have to keep him in the bathroom. Safe and sound from our bird dog.

I evicted a pair of baby doves today. I felt terrible, and surprised they didn't get smoothed when I dropped their tree fort. I moved them carefully (without touching them) to a new home on a high forest stump. I felt much better when mom swooped in to cover them up and protect them. It's funny I don't have a problem shooting deer, bear or almost anything that tastes good... but a little baby bird looks up at me and I melt like butter. :pinguino:
