Yet another chip truck build

Mert,I hear you on the floor issue. From what I can see the wood is still solid and bed in general is pretty decent structure wise. Bed gets moved to the shop tomorow and I'll look at it closer. On the same note I don't want to tie up his shop longer than I have to.

Here is the 1st body I looked at. 16' trash dump. It's a little rough. The last photo shows the rear of the right main rail tweaked over. If you look hard you can see the shiny ss hinge pin. this body has a lot of over hang. The side rails on the box are also flexed in a bit. I may pick this up down the road for my F650 and modify it for my needs. Price is right. 20170224_113312.webp 20170224_113302.webp 20170224_113230.webp 20170224_113222.webp aa

I swung down to the shop earlier and paid for the body, hinge, and twin cylinder scissor assembly. Hydraulic tank is there but I don't think I want it. Odd lookin twin tank with one of em being large. also looks like it fell off a locomotive. Pump is married to the pto on the donor. I find out what the plans are for that tomorrow.

I'm not liking the hyd tank set-up because I want frame space. For good quality under body boxes.

There is usually some cubic space between the frame rails. For a dump box that onlly gets raised occasionally I think you might get by with a smaller tank than on a unit that runs continuously like a grapple or front end loader.

Once you find space you could do some CAD work to shape the tank...Cardboard Aided Design!

I've had pretty good luck with these guys so far. I bought an electric pump and tank from them and was very happy at the quality. And it was American made. Might be worth looking into them to see if you can get a new pump and tank set up.
There is a lot of room between the frame rails sometimes. As long as you stay away from the scissor. Lol

A couple more pics of truck at my buddies shop and the donor flatbed.View attachment 43209 View attachment 43210 View attachment 43211

That's much cleaner than mine:

But mine will be clean someday.

Install a PTO pump off that spicer transmission routed inside the frame rails. Install the tank between the rails also.

I'll take a pic of mine if you promise not to laugh: dad didn't follow my hand signals & tweaked the neck on my fill spout/breather.

Thanks guys. Truck has an air operated PTO, which I'm happy about. I'll report any news on that situation this evening. I have about 6'' of space after the cab also. Exhaust stack has a brace mounted to the frame. Might squeeze something in there. Originally I wanted to remove the brace and build a box for plywood storage and remount the stack to the box. Be nice to have 6 sheets of 3/4 4x7' available to protect driveway edges and stuff.
@hsell I have a pic archived for platform ramps. I'll post it later.
Another member was working on better ramps but I don't remember who. Feel free to direct them here later when I post it.

As far as the deck goes, I'd have to cut the steel of the deck and then the ungodly number of fasteners in every cross member. Guess the wood is staying till it rots. I'll deal with it then.

good quality under body boxes.

I should have been a little clearer with my question. Any good boxes? I don't like the TSCrap with the aluminum piano hinges. I won't be leaving the tools locked up overnight but I'd still like something a little more secure for when stuff has to be left unattended for a bit.

Those black TSC boxes have aluminum hinges?

Wow.

I don't remember where I got this pic from. Could have been here.View attachment 43236
The two upright posts drop down and pin in place for leg supports. Everything folds up out of way for transport. @hsell looks like you need ramps.
@climbhightree were you looking for a better ramp system? I don't recall ...... someone here was.

That's a cool truck. If the financing department would allow me to spend a little money that's the general idea of my next truck. A support vehicle for mini, mats, fuel and dump trailer. I'm thinking between a 350 and a 550 would be sufficient though.

So I take a trip down the valley to the shop and see the body and every thing sitting in the same spot. Nothings touched from two days ago. No problem, I'm in no hurry and it's just my friend's shop where he plays with his own stuff between his excavation jobs. Not like I got it over at an equipment place. I get back home and place a call on an 03' M20R with loader for $50k, that I found online last night. Goes something like this ....

Hi, I'm interested in the 20'' Mobark with the loader.
"Sorry we sold that 2 days ago."
I'm so pissed I could spit blood :muyenojado:

Quick update. The bed is shortened to 14' and the rear light panel is welded back on. The scissor and cylinder assembly is mocked up in place, and the hinge is being modified a bit to fit my truck. I need to grab a couple of 3x4x1/4'' tubing at 10' long for the body to sit on. The hitch is coming off a rolled Western Star tractor. Nice and beefy. I plan to pull a heavy chipper. I'll post more pics if i can get them to load again. :pcmala:
