XRR sling ideas

We're ramping up for spring so I think the slow season is wrapping up so I'm putting my Xwish list together so it's only 1 order for him to get across the border.

Do you guys prefer the db rr fsor the tenex rr fs?

I spliced this version of the ABR ultra sling for attaching a block but I think I'll try turning the block attachment into a double beast boomsling. If I can figure it out it should work great

Simpler than a loopie, whoopie or a dead eye sling. I like that.

You could absolutely do that. That's the beauty of this sling. You can make it a dead eye, ultra sling, whoopie. It's so versatile

If you guys were to outfit a truck for rigging with the basics but all xrrs what would be a must?

I'm thinking:
rr fs
double beast sling single tail or loopie (a 6' & a 15')
single beast 12' single tail
tht (not sure on this sling size and whether it should be loopie or single tail)

any other must slings for you guys?
Double braid rr fs
Old fart whoopie
Boomsling
Large ring dead eyes for redirects (x2)

There's nothing you can't handle with that

But on nasty flaky bark that catches and snag a lot? I'll have to give it another whirl
:rayos: .TENEX so yeah it can pick fairly easy , mines fairly new so I haven't experienced many trees yet with it .. Its only been apart of a few oak assassinations and one maple not mature enough to produce the ruffage of which you speak..I like just how light it is and how much wieght its good for.. The pines are gonna be the biggest snaggers for me . I'll have to see how it fairs with that.. I'm likeing the look of two beast rings at end of a long sling though for sparring down as well , then if you want to make it over a crotch just alpine butterfly a third ring on there or prussik on there.. Could be nearly as versatile as beast whoop, and if you like cow hitch or dare I say timber hitch in ( I like timber hitches )..I wish there was a ring that was double wide ring like beast or just say 3 inch across, although I do like the sound the rings make all clacking together ..; $

Here's my version of the double beast ultra sling. Uses two individual carriers. Works well. I posted more about this sling earlier in this thread or perhaps on the other XRR thread. I typically pre set this at a position in the tree where I will start negative rigging. Up to that point it serves as a fair lead into the lowering device.

Great work! I really like the idea of a quick install/Uninstall. Anything to make the job a little easier.

How long is the sling? How big is each hole?

Sling is just over 10'... enough to girth around a 36" stem. I don't have it with me, but the holes are "just" large enough to pass the two Beast rings through. I used a similar sling for about six months last year, but constructed with 5/8" TENEX tec and two large XRRs. It was longer (maybe 12') and I found I rarely used the extra length so made this one with that in mind. While I have no break test data, I consistently dropped 1000+ pound logs into the smaller version with no visible compromising of the cordage. I went to the larger version to achieve the friendlier bend radius. It has proven quite versatile and goes with me to every job in my "basic" rigging kit.

Been using this for a while. Borrowed the sling idea from the ABR Ultra sling from TreeStuff.com (an excellent product), but used two independent lengths of cordage. My original was 5/8" Tenex Tec with two large rings. This one is 3/4" Tenex Tec with two "Beast" rings. At just over 10' overall it will work for stems up to 36" in diameter.
Hey John, this ABR sling you made is sweet, it's pretty much what I was wishing I could put in my Treestuff cart. I haven't learned to splice yet (will take class someday) and was wondering if you or somebody you know would make one of these if I mailed out all the parts needed? If so I'd be happy to pay for your time. Or maybe I should talk to X man?
Thanks, Crash

Crash, if you where to look up "locking Brummel" on YouTube you might decide to make one of these slings yourself. It's really pretty basic, not difficult at all, and I would highly recommend acquiring this skill for every serious tree guy (or gal). I also know that X is coming out with a really slick double Beast sling... I am fortunate enough to have one in my possession but had to swear an oath of secrecy until it is officially released .

Look forward to see this Beast you speak of

I am working on a dead eye double Beast based on the splice used in the X Man's sling, but don't want to post a pic due to my "oath." David has been too good to me. I believe he will be making such a sling available soon. I an still really pleased with the "ultra" version. I see a lot of promise in the Boomsling too. The thing I like about dead eye slings is the ability to move it mid line. Also a bit lighter and less bulky.

Did X release a double beast

Thanks John for the heads up on the Double Beast, hope it comes out soon. I watched a couple splice vids too. Your right the locking brummel doesn't look too difficult. So if X Man is Wolverine, then who's the lucky tree guy that gets to be Beast? (or Hank if you will.)
