is it possible to use a modified tautline or blake's to attach, say an x rigging ring on a short (5') length of line, to another XRR on a 8' sling so its and adjustable rigging point like a adjustable rR friction saver?
i understand that there are XRRs in a closed loop and all but just curious if its possible. havent tested the idea before

Something like this...

Sometimes shock loads or heavy loads make a taught line, blake, prusik move, slide, lengthen.
I assure you this is not always a good thing I prefer my rigging points stay where I set them.
Whoopie slings, etc work better more reliable. (In my opinion)
Also to much weight into that system you can also melt/ glaze the rope where your hitch is surprisingly a lot you may only use it once look at it and say 'oh boy'(or something like that) and throw that rope in the garbage.
So try it on something small first if you want to try it

Hope that helps

I've been looking at old fart's (tom hoffman's) rigging whoopie and I like it but I deal with a lot of small stems to so I have 1/2" tenex on order but was wondering about putting 2 different size x rings installed befor the splice they would float give a better bend radius be retrievable remotely, etc everything I like about tom's whoopie.

My question is would the x rings hold up with no sling around the outside grove for rigging?

Questions like these are exactly why the xxr were not sold as individual rings for a the first part of their life. To my knowledge the rings have not been tested in this configuration and it is not advisable to utilize them in such away.
