What is this witchcraft you speak of?!Get your hands on some four strand
More is betta, we are imperialists. What is this witchcraft you speak of?!
I was looking around, and see that there is also such a thing as a 4 strand braid, which I find intriguing. Is splicing 4 strand twisted rope basically the same as 3 strand? Does 4 strand hockle worse than 3? That'd be a deal breaker, as 3 strand is already hockly enough.More is betta, we are imperialists.
But it makes for a nice rope, never understood why 3 strand was favored. Could be hockeling? Twas a thing with spur climbing fliplines
Sounds like a good one, but what makes them inferior for any other typical ring use? They're cheap, and abusable, relatively speaking. Is there a specific use for these Patrick?
Span rig ring slings ?
Yea, the picking is starting to piss me off. I may join the cult of three strand next time. They're just for setting up rope paths and getting good vectors. My old slings were shorter, and I like these more than Tenex.
What do you do with the eye on the tail?double braid for me with an eye splice on the other side…
choke it where length of sling is not too critical (often times with a shackle) or to be able to use it on large wood with max WLL (because of splice) instead of a running bowline. What do you do with the eye on the tail?
I like that idea. I'll have to make one of those for sure.choke it where length of sling is not too critical (often times with a shackle) or to be able to use it on large wood with max WLL (because of splice) instead of a running bowline.
I tapered this one a few years ago. Decided it wasn't worth the extra effort.Gotta do something with the tail, better than a dead end.
4 strand was used for flip lines where a length of cable was twisted into the middle like a core, aka steel core flip line was born.
The splice is prettier too.
@Muggs have you played with tapering the splice tails. Is that hardlay?
