Wrench for ddrt climbing

treebing

Someone had posted a while back about the best way to keep their hitches from burning up when doing crane work. This seems like a good solution. The wrench above your hitch in ddrt creates way to much drag, but this set up really runs smooth and your hitch remains nice and clean.

Don't use the same setup for your climbing as for your rigging.

Yes, you'll notice that in ddrt if you put the wrench above your hitch it is a 2:1 system so it is mechanical ddisadvantaged. It is very difficult to drag it around the tree. With this system the wrench is working 1:1 and it is very easy to lower yourself around the tree by hand. You can keep your hitch from doing much at all. Open it up all the way and use your hands for control. You can't do that so well with a pulley because you either burn your hands or your hitch.
Does the wrench bend the rope less in this configuration compared to using it with a standard set up, but with ddrt and a pulley?

So you can't use a splice obviously and if you want/need to pull your line how hard is it to get out of the wrench? The few times I've pulled mine off it kinda got jammed

Your right, I guess I spliced eye wouldn't work. I agree that a spliced eye is the best for ddrt. But they are a pain in the ass for everything else.
