Would you buy this saw?

At our local Stihl dealer they have a Poulan Pro for sale. They said it was a "show special". I dont remember the model number but I remember it was a 33cc saw with a 16" bar. The price was $70 and it was new and in the box. The normal retail price was $140. I have never used a Poulan and I have never heard anything really good about them, but for $70..... What do you all think?

Be sure that you'll get support if you need any parts. At one time I ran mostly Poulan. Now, though, there are fewer Poulan dealers. Some of the current saws are worth running, others are low hour useage throw aways.

Funny thing is, that is exactly what the salesman told me. I know you get what you pay for, but this just seemed like a really good deal.

They are ok for the home owner, I would not use it everyday. Poulan makes all of the saws for Sears now. AYP makes all their lawm mowers, and so. The Pro series seem to be a little tougher but I would still not use this saw daily. A good weekend firewood saw.

When I first started doing tree work(20+ years ago) we had a bunch of Poulan "Super 250's".They were neat little saws except there was no chain brake(just like the standard Poulans today) and they had manual oilers. There is still a box of them out in the shed. The Poulan Pro's as I recall got a functional chain brake,a chrome cylinder bore and different carburetor. The last Poulan I bought was in '96 when they were orange and Husky was selling them.It was a "Pro" series.I think it lasted about a year but it was not used every day.For $70. it'd be a good saw to have when those pesky family members come around to "borrow" a saw!
