tmw , have you lost your thinking cap , Tom D , are you so out of touch ? Are you guys trying to make this job more dangerous than it allready is ? I don't understand the paranoia , maybe you guys are just trying harder and harder to justify your presence . I'm getting turned off of the buzz with this crap . Man up ! Don't get hurt , don't hurt no one , get paid . It all adds up . Wanna borrow my calculator ?

Hey, let's forget the rules, then we can all biatch about how much we're paying for our insurance. Therein lies the rub. Those that don't take safety seriously end up costing us all in our insurance and WC rates. In NYC they advertise at all major construction sites a 311 line to report dangerous or unsafe work practices anonymously. A contractor was fined $424,000.00 for safety violations. Oh, and ask the condo owners that lost their units to the collapse of the cranes if they think OSHA is a waste of time or too ridiculous.

You may work safe but plenty don't. As Pogo said," I's seen the enemy and it's us!"

Yep, me too. We can't have it both ways. It took the death of a kid and his mother to get Z133.1 started and all the rest of them to refine it. Ask any mother, sister, wife, child of those arborists killed or maimed if they think it's too much to ask that we look at every thing we do and the potential for injury then seek ways to prevent them.

Riggs,

I respect you and your opinions. Please understand that I am sharing my experiences, and what I am hearing. I am trying to get people to understand that, like it or not, some of these changes may be forced on us.

I would rather be out in front of the changes and regulations than trying to play catch up.

I don't benefit from sharing the information that I learn from working with OSHA and TCIA. I would hope that the Buzz members do.

If all y'all would rather not hear about the possible changes that may be coming, I don't have to post what I know.

Be angry if you want, but some of the messengers are tired of being shot at.

keep it coming TMW, this balances the news we find in "Awakenings". Two cut rope accidents in as many days?????? What is the standard on using a saw in the tree? I know in Canada it's two points of contact for this very reason.

Two forms of attachment are required for chain saw use in the tree. In the case with Norm's friend however, the rope appeared to have been cut with a handsaw.

Well,

I will admit, my first post was a bit over the top,

Sorry guys.

I hate the thought of being over-regulated. And this still seems to be a bit excessive to me.

Stupid is as stupid does...... If we as professionals look at our ever evolving workplace and assess the risks -no different then what we do with trees- then the new hazards can be prevented or work practices developed by us that will MITIGATE (not eliminate) them.

Someone has to oversee us and it might as well be ourselves. If the number of accidents diminish then OSHA wouldn't have any justification for imposing new regulations.

Look at commercial roofing and the systems used there to improve worker safety.

Let's start having discussions about how we can improve safety not circumvent it.
