Worker\'s compensation in 1687

"We, the undersigned, are men without a country. Outlaws in our own land and homeless outcasts in any other. Desperate men, we go to seek a desperate fortune. Therefore, we do, here and now, band ourselves into a brotherhood of bucaneers... to practice the trade of piracy on the high seas. We, the hunted, will now hunt! Therefore, to that end, we enter into the following Articles of Agreement: First: We pledge ourselves to be bound together as brothers in a life and death friendship, sharing alike in fortune and in trouble. Second Article: All monies and valuables which may come into our possession shall be lumped together into a common fund... and from this fund shall first be taken the money to fit, rig, and provision the ship. After that, the recompense each shall receive who is wounded is follows: for the loss of a right arm: 600 pieces of eight; left arm: 500; for the loss of a right leg: 500; left leg: 400.

If a man conceal any treasure captured or fail to place it in the general fund, he shall be marooned. Set ashore on a deserted isle, and there left with a bottle of water, a loaf of bread and a pistol with one load. If a man shall be drunk on duty he shall recieve the same fate. And if a man shall molest a woman captive against her will... he, too, shall receive the same punishment. These Articles entered into this 20th day of June, in the year 1687."

Talk Like A Pirate Day is the 19th, so you'll need to be memorizing the above Articles.

Wilt,

Give it a rest would ya? We know how you feel.

If you are that upset with the system, run for office yourself.

Whiners don't change much of anything and often end up isolated.

I myself am growing tired of hearing you b*tch and moan at every turn.

Instead of complaining, why don't you tell us what it is you are doing to change that which you hate so much?

Re: Worker\'s compensation in 1687

With the number of banks or investment houses crumbling these days I wonder how their 'captains' would have survived in pirate days. Concealing treasure from the general fund...over compensation...would result in marooning...without the golden parachutes that the money grubbers who've been 'runnning' these banks are going to take with them.

PS...I'm going to start up a new business next month. Here's my model, anyone is welcome to contact me for franchise information.

When a poster or post is made that another user doesn't like I'll come to your place and hit your BACK button so that you don't have to read the posts. Hahahaha!

By now everyone must know that OW will have some sort of dependable comment on any topic. Someone else, RF in this case, will challenge OW next. We also expect that MB will make a jab too so that he can advertise TH. Thinking that there will be anything else would be like expecting to find peaches on a walnut tree.

This is part of any forum I guess. A rule that I came up with a while ago that came from listening to talk radio was that after I made three responses to what was coming out of the radio I turned it off. Would I expect anything different? When I heard that my tax money was going to bail out another private company my three outbursts were used in rapid succession...F.... F....F...., then, punch, time to listen to some Red Dirt Country and calm down.

Re: Worker\'s compensation in 1687

Nancy Pelosi claims that the bail outs are very important for our country.

Hmmm........

Makes me wonder what's going on here.

Re: Modern pirates

Since we are on the informal topic of workman's comp (pirate style). Anyone ever have to file a claim for workman's comp? I had a new employee hurt his knee today. It may be just sore, but it had me a little worried.

Basically, we were cutting up some 4' diameter trunk wood. We had a slice of one about 14" in width. He was balancing it while I was going to reposition the Boxer (mini skid steer) to pick it up. It started to go over and I could see he was not going to win the battle. Instead of getting out of the way, he tried to hold it up. It came down on his upper thy and basically forced him into a squatting position. It took 3 of us guys to get it off of him. He said he felt a little sore.

That happened at 12pm. He worked 5 more hours without a complaint. I just hope when the adrenaline wears off tonight, he will be okay. I suppose it could have been worse.

Re: Modern pirates

Hey Jamin' how much time after the accident do you have to file a report? Be real careful about not having it checked, if it does prove to be more it'll come back to bite you on the a$$...

Hey, he could have a point! I started doing treework when I was 18, and it only took 10 good years of lifting logs the wrong way to make me an old man early (just ask Carmen about the moaning and groaning as I get up in the morning!).

We used to have races to the log truck with the biggest rounds of wood we could lift.

I also used to be 6'1"
