My back cuts don't always line up perfect but fucking nailed it today. Good thing too cause the customer was videoing. Had to double cut the spar, the 661 w/ 32" bar was >6"short.
80'dead ash, top blew out in last week's storm and took out wires on its way down. Bucketed it down to ~35' spar and fell it. Customer didn't care about lawn damage after the electric companies bill, he just wanted it gone.
An unusual number of dead animals at this job, luckily it wasn't a bad omen.

We have 880's and 42" bars at the shop if we're going to a real monster job but the 661 is the biggest saws we keep on the trucks for day to day work. I'll regularly fell up to 40"+ with it, typically only grab the real big saws if the work order says >50" DBH (unless your Adrian who keeps a 395 on his truck at all times!)

Man, I made a real ugly hinge today. (list of excuses: ) Dead grand fir, super awkward swooping angle, sketchy steep slope and a bar that couldn't reach through in one pass. The log still went just where it was aimed/wedged, but I had to quickly low cut the stump and kick it down the hill to hide my shame.

Been working solo here recently doing felling jobs. The first pic is a 26" DBH side leaning Cottonwood. No cleanup, thank goodness, lots of ground chipping on impact. Did a second Cottonwood as well on that job that wasn't really picture worthy.

Second and third pics are a 39"DBH Pin Oak on another site. We topped it this past spring with a treemek and waited on the trunk removal for the homeowners finances. Felled it between two driveways and haul the wood away.

This is a sore spot with me! I know exactly what you mean! The reason it strikes a nerve with me is because we have some grand enormous silvers here in New Jersey, and yes most are badly decayed
(ruined by hack pruning). This one has never been touched so just a bunch of dead tips and a few over extended limbs.
Not the usual decayed spots where someone felt the need to make a 4 or 6” removal cut half way up a 50’ stem.

Yeah that is just it. Someone finds a hack to top it and years later that is the result.

Here’s a cedar we took down today, wish I would have taken a picture before we roped down most of the limbs but you get the idea

Took down some 80 year old pine over on lake Wateree. A few of them were over 110'. The wind picked up in the afternoon of the first day so, we packed up early.

We have been loving this lift, it’s fast, has great reach, and sets up in tighter and stranger places than we ever expected it to. I’m almost jealous of the young man who is running it most of the time, I only get a chance to use it about once a week!

First decent size project since returning from my back injury. Dead fir, ~3.5' dbh but necked down quick and was only around 110'. Over a septic so had to lower some limbs, ended up just cutting and dropping firewood rounds of of the tree for the trunk wood, new 500i felt good in the tree. Rained a lot of sawdust on the 4th hole. Left a habitat snag mostly so neither me nor the customer had to deal with the big wood
