Woodsman Chipper

My local dealer priced a 2012 Woodsman 12x at around $32k and a 2012 15x at $40k. Is this a fair price or do dealers usually drop prices to clear out last years models.

Also, I have a Ford F550 7.3l diesel chip truck with a capacity of around 12 yards. The 12x weighs around 5200 lbs and the 15x weighs 7200 lbs. Over time, will pulling the 15x be more likely to wear out the transmission. The GVCW on the truck is 26k, and with a load of chips the truck weighs around 18000 lbs.

What style of transmission? I wouldn't really worry about it either way. I'd run it till it blows and then have a trans shop beef it up to make it bulletproof.

I pull a 250xp behind a F450 auto with a 7.3. Trans shifts fine, but I feel the truck is working hard to move everything. However, I've driven lots of 7.3's and this truck seems to be lacking some power compared to others.

Those prices seem pretty good for the chippers, cheaper than a Morbark for sure. With Terex taking over, you may find some deals on later model machines.

I went ahead and bought the 12 inch chipper - the 730. I have been pulling a Mitts and Merrill chipper with my F550 the last few years. It only weighs around 4k.

If anyone is interested I may decide to sell the Mitts and Merrill chipper. It is a 2004 model with a 84 hp cummins diesel and around 1250 hours on the machine. If you are not familiar with this style of drum chipper here is a link to the manufacturer's website - http://karlkuemmerling.com/store/product988.html.
