Winter Storm Damage,

So, you want to start a tree care business?

A very happy birthday to you, Mike, and happy holidays!

Those Magnolia are nice. Any idea how far north they've been grown? We're flirting with sugar maple currently. Good show, my peace sign stayed up all year but it's only 3/4s working and off kilter. Kinda a ghetto peace sign until it warms up enough for me to go up there.

I think they stop in southern New York. They may grow further north but can't reach their full height potential.

Tuliptree? They reach well over 100' all over New England.

I've seen big ones in Southern Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire. I think the northern edge of their native range is Mass, but they can be planted with success further north.

When I am doing crane removals I only make 1 cut to remove a piece, i.e. I don't make a snap cut or notch just the back cut. For me this seems to get the saw stuck less often and is quicker. Obviously you want to start the cut from where you would expect the cut would open and then cut fast, never slow down before you finish the cut.

Another thing that this video made me realize is how much I love my communication system, no more hand signals. You and the OP are on the same page all day long.

Glad you were climbing, not me as I hate cold.....

Good job.

We have recently started using headsets and they basically became invaluable immediately on almost every job. They are a real game changer and even a potential life saver.

Derail, but day one of using headsets was hysterical. Instead of "walkie-talkies", we called them "stoppie-f@#$kies" because when 3 or 4 guys are learning how to use them it's hard to ignore the temptation to stop and F around for a second. We had fun with them for a bit, but immediately realized the value of them for any job, not just crane assisted dismantles.

Further derail, sorry. Are you guys using them on all jobs or just crane stuff? What precipitated the move to constant comm?

Got'em cheap on TreeBay. We use them all the time because we can. Beats the snot out of yelling over the chipper and/or hand signals. And it's high tech, which chicks dig.

I thought it went well Mike, balanced and smooth picks. Did the camera die?

I like a steelcore flip line when I don't have a high tie. Especially on crane work.
