Midwest is getting hit by the first storm of the season. 9-13 inches expected by tomorrow. Here's the first inch.

i just moved back to the chicago area from sunny South Carolina...just in time for the snow and cold weather work. Hey Norm, i don't know if you've heard, but I am back working in west chicago. Its good to be home and i look forward to working with you again.

Brrrrrrr.

This morning it was a blustery 42 degrees. Thank goodness it warmed up to the mid 60s already. I thought I might have to wear my fleece all day!

EP Your lucky you dont work in Europe then! 42° seems warm somedays. I know all about it, the air vents in my Phanners are knackerd so the wind blows up your pipe most days. But not as cold as wearing a kilt like a true scotsman. We have had a view chilly days here recently 26° some mornings round 7am, brass monkeys all round.

Why yes, I am lucky to know all about the chilly brass monkeys.

But that is because I am fresh to death.

Ice cold.

Snow sucks!

I swear every year the first couple of snow falls we get, it seems everyone in the state has forgotten how to drive in it. Yesterday we got 3-4 inches more which tapered off late in the evening. I had class this morning on the other end of town (about 25 miles). I was on the road at 620am in order to be on campus by 8 oclock. At 815 I was only about 10 miles away from home stuck in bumper to bumper traffic. I called the students (those that made it in) and told them my situation and that if I was lucky Id make it there in time for the end of class. I took the next exit, turned around and came home.
Then I spent a better part of my morning moving equipment at my storage lot so the plow drivers could clean up my spaces.

Did I mention that snow sucks?

I love the snow. I love working in it too, as long as im not walking in it with tennis shoes and cotton socks. No real snows yet here. a couple of inches. A little chilly but it looks like another weak winter.

What makes me sad is that they always remove all the snow from the roads. Back in the day they would actually move the snow out into the streets. Sliding is so much more effecient than rolling. Snow is great stuff, the reason it isnt snowing so much anymore is there are so many people hating on snow that it feels unwanted and just doesnt come. There is so much negative energy against one of natures greatest gifts.
