Widowmaker n Pfanner Protos

Helmet with fairly significant vent openings/holes facing up to the sky/falling debris is okay with most users? :tanguero::hueco:
Sure seems that way.

I own a protos and wear it for my own jobs/side work, I don't see the vent configuration as a concern. The company I work for issued me a Kask Superplasma that in my opinion has more vertically oriented vents than the protos. With either helmet, the odds of an object penetrating those exact areas are never zero, but are pretty low.

Everyone has a different definition of what they consider safe and tolerance for risk, wear whatever helmet you feel safest in and move on.

A fellow once told me only helmets without any holes were safe because that stopped electric wires/zapping and vents we're a no no. I didn't quite buy into what he was saying. Could actually be a regulation somewhere. Anyone hear of such a thing?

It's technically true, but your helmet is only going to stop you from getting electrocuted if that's the only part making contact with the line. And even then I wouldn't guarantee it.

That is true, sort of. Electrical rated (class E) hard hats are all vent free. This is in part because electricity can more easily pass through air than it can an insulating material, such as the plastic such hats are made from.

So yes, that is a regulation, in a roundabout way. No rated hats will have vents, but not all ventless hats are Class E rated.

Yup it’s a thing.. I don’t work around wires so don’t pay attention to it much

Is there non-holed plastic protectors for your ears, neck and shoulders, inches from your helmet? Don't answer, rhetorical :) I suppose something prompted the regulation. Probably wasn't pretty.
