Seeing the post about the Feb ArboristNews made me remember a little article I saw about Mr. Strasser's 100m feat.

Now I have to ask...Who's Next? Mark? How 'bout it? Dan Krause? You in here somewhere?

I found that amazing! I can barely do 30'....

what's this 100m feat? i heard something about beddes footlocking off a crane-hung rope but didn't see any articles..?

yahh. not so much. i could footlock 100 ft if i had to but damn sure there'd be a few breathers in there. show me a tree that requires it, and i'm in. just for yayas... maybe not. it's all about the trees. and you?

Thats pretty impressive. I noticed it was single line and no prussik. I believe Don Blair did that same thing but off a bridge in his younger days.DRopped increments of line off as he went .

thanks greg. we were talking in the truck today about a tree-sit platform one of my guys slept on in a redwood 200 ft off the ground - complete with a kitchen. oatmeal takes on a whole new taste i bet. one of these days i'll get me up in an old redwood..

meanwhile, seattle has plenty of huge conifers too - i heard there's a 200 ft doug fir in a nearby park. probably have to do a bit of footlocking there!

A few years ago I chaperoned the U of MN SSA Chapter on a field trip to SEattle and the Olympic Pen. Dan Kraus and Scott Baker helped us set a climb into a couple of trees in the park.

That was the best group that I ever took a trip with. We took the train out, rented a 12 pass van and flew back.

Dan worked on setting up this traverse. Matt Lennon decided to play tree monkey while up there at about 170' The lower canopy was so thick we couldn't see the ground. It was like walking on green.
