who likes 1/2" arbor plex for rigging?

Re: who likes 1/2\" arbor plex for rigging?

It is a very durable rope that is OK for lots of general applications. Unfortunately it excels in exactly zero applications. Good in a pinch, that's about it. I have some holding up my hammock in the backyard!

I will take my 1/2" stable braid over it any day. I have used one for a few weeks and saw a few break. After that I am uneasy anytime I see someone use them on any big stuff. I will say it did hold long enough to save my butt.

I use mine for skidding logs up hills, lol. My thought process is that if it breaks, even if it only holds once I got my moneys worth out of it. 2 years of abuse later and its still kickin, no puffs or frays even!

Re: who likes 1/2\" arbor plex for rigging?

I've been climbing and light rigging with 1/2" Arborplex for over 20 years now. Never had a problem with it. I won't use it for loads over about 500#, but it's great for natural-crotching, and saves wear and tear on my Stable Braids.

Re: who likes 1/2\" arbor plex for rigging?

I do alot of my rigging old-school. On take-downs, I frequently limb the tree as I climb up, rigging the limbs off themselves and lowering them to the groundies myself. This allows them to deal with the limbs and not have to deal witht the rope. I rig up to about 600#-700# loads with 1/2" Arborplex. I also start out with a short length (about 60'-70') for the lower limbs, then have them tie on a longer one for the higher stuff. This prevents the rope's tail from becoming entangled in debris below me. With a 60' rope, I'm good to about 50' (allowing for a wrap or two), and while they're untying the lower end, I just pull the other end up to me, as it's only a few feet away. I wish I had all the money in one pile I've made with Arborplex...

Haha, no, we had a bowline on a bight hooked to the pintle on the back of a truck, dragged the rope through the crest of a hill, dragging oak, poplar and maple logs up a hill about 75'. Its still kicking! Biggest piece we pulled probably was some 20-24" oak about 10 feet long, went fine, just had to keep the butt end from hanging up on stumps.
