Trumps had a hard on for removing that tree since 2017, but back then it only underwent significant branch removal & pruning, despite the cabling system supposedly failing in places. There were talks of having it removed in '17 though. At that time, health reports were furnished by the US National Arboretum, although I'm unsure if they are the current "experts". Apparently one of the main leaders broke off about 55 yrs ago, left unattended, and exposed a cavity that would end up being filled with...cement.

The trees at the WH are under one of the big tree care companies. I’ve seen their trucks and crews working in the background of a few newscasts. Plenty of TRAQies and doctorates involved w the NPS

The article said Trump consulted with the National Park Service. Hopefully they had a qualified arborist assess it. But you can almost guarantee they were told what the outcome of the assessment had to be.

I don't doubt that, but we'll probably never know. I hope there are people hiding on the inside, recording everything they can for more accurate historical documentation.

I’m not crazy then. All this rang a bell but I couldn’t put a finger on it. That and they want to redo the rose garden. Certainly one of those types that like to mark their territories by pissing on the stumps of others historical efforts
