Who has a website?

I got it, Steve! Well thought out. It's the most interactive arborsite for its size I've ever seen. Really fantastic. Catering to local business you should knock everyone's socks off.

Congratulations on a job well done

thanks gerry, theres still a couple little bits im not 100% happy with and also i want to upload some videos and increase the gallerys so there can be a seperate gallery page for each sub page.
i also want to work a lot on the fungus ID page, currently gathering pics, so if anyone has any pics i can use!

"it is very common for trees to be literally topped in half, a practise which is becoming increasingly frowned upon within the Arb industry."

Steve, re pruning....this sounds as if the practice of topping is open to interpretation, I would be more assertive, What about something like;

"As our company follows British Standards 3998 for treework, we will not carry out 'topping' of trees."

"When reducing the size of a tree's crown or removing branches we endevour to maintain the natural shape of the tree."

Something like that, no half measures, when someone asks me to top their tree in half, I just say,

"Sorry but my standards don't allow for me to do this, I'm a Certified Arborist and someone could come out and look at my work at any time and if they see a poor pruning job I will lose my accreditation, I also have my reputation to protect"

Then I tell them what I can do. And if they don't like it I walk away.

With your website you gotta set out your stall right from the start so that people know exactly where your coming from.

the topping of trees IS open to interpretation grover
if someone has a tree in their yard with a bad spot half way up the tree and the tops unstable, if they dont want to lose the tree im going to top it to where its safe. i dont think its possible to outright say "i wont top a tree" and leave it to the customer to decide when you may bend the rules.

Ok steve, buts thats an extreme example of where topping may be an option. I feel that the topping of trees in general should not be open to interpretation - this is what it sounds like in your website. If you want to be seen as a professional then you should sound like you are talking from a professional's standpoint.

"Cable bracing is sometimes looked at as an admission of a trees likelihood to fail."

Cable bracing is an admission of a tree's likelihood to fail!

I reckon in the context of the paragraph this is confusing for a member of the public.

I would miss that sentence out, it's irrelevant

I think it's quite slick Steve, I look forward to seeing it complete.

Although, I would advise you to have someone 'Proof Read' everything that goes on there, I was caught out with something similar very recently.

Also, I find the yellow writing on your homepage difficult to read, especially the address. Maybe its just my eyes, see what you think. And I would like to see your name in bigger, more prominent text, so hopefully, it will stick in peoples minds.

Good luck with it and the business.

cheers reg, unfortunately regarding text size im somewhat limited by the template software.....when it goes to html those little niggles will be put right! its really ther wording i want to get spot on first.
you're right about the colours, i'll have a play later
