Which to choose? Mini Skid Steer

Thanks for the information. One of my calls next week is to the dealer to see what it's gonna cost for a brand new one. I have noticed the power drop when on hills. It's much more significant than the Thomas but it also goes twice as fast on flat ground. And I'm predominantly a flat lander with some hills but not often.

I noticed slight power drop once, going up a hill with a full size log (~8ft. of ~20" diameter dead red oak). The tip weight is greater on hills so it's easier to max out the machine. My sk650 is a 32 hp diesel.

Ditch witch fast reverse speed is a great feature, compared to several other minis. I'm guessing you already know that.

I noticed the power drop the other day accessing a bamboo eradication project in a steep back yard. It was very easy just to feather the control back a little to keep the RPMs up. The extra speed (in both directions) is something I'm going to need to get used to. So far when working around the chipper and in tight quarters I idle it to about half until I get used to it. I can see it being very easy to get tossed in uneven or rough terrain.
So I picked up the unit for sale on Friday. Looks solid so far, looking forward to putting it to work. On the exterior there are a few more scratches and scuff marks but nothing serious. Hoping to move some firewood today with it to see what it can do.

Just checking on the "power drop" issue. Are you guys referring to the machine bogging down or even engine stalling when trying to work hard at a faster rate? But, if you back off on throttle a little it will be able to function fine just at a slower rate?

If so it turns out that is a counterintuitive response that I had to learn to get used to on my Avant. Push down on the throttle more and stall the machine, let up on it a little and the hydraulic motors operate in a more torquey way and push on through.

@Merle Nelson I have found that exact solution. Seems that at higher flow there is less torque, who would have known. So far I personally don't like running it full throttle unless I'm just traveling, so it really hasn't been a big issue. Just back off and, as you said, it pushes right through. Thanks

I've never heard of anyone having success replacing the bearings on a Boxer idler, I only sold assemblies. $278/each, shipping included I believe they were.

I don't deal with Boxer anymore, hence the past tense.
Is that to say you have know people to fail trying?

Didn't get my idler off this weekend... See what happens in the morning.

Middle roller, at 1600 hrs., next to replacement roller. I was splitting bearings in half as they popped out, lol.20170430_185042.webp
This one was in less worse shape, but still uncased and sagging below its specification. Neither really looked amenable to repair.

Levi, at Envirochipper, sent out two repair kits, yesterday. Thanks for the info. He mentioned that they sell them on eBay, FWIW. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Boxer-Idler...e664a2b&pid=100005&rk=2&rkt=3&sd=142060250715

The bearing are disintergrated, leaving some part in the middle of the idler. It makes up the space between the cylindrical hole in the idler, and the tapered bearings. The inner race is supported by this piece.

I was told at the industrial shop that this inner piece would have to be pressed out. I wonder if it can't just be re-used, in place, with the new inner and outer bearing installed. I'll have to get pics.

Hopefully it doesn't take long to ship, and I'll be up and running.

It sound like it would make sense to buy the whole idler, replace it and then rebuild the old one. This way you have one sitting ready to replace when it goes bad again. You probably wouldn't need to rebuild right away, but with in a few months to a year would make sense.

They had them on sale due to the model being re stickered as the sk800 same specs as sk752 I paid $20,990 I'll deal with the power drop for that price drop

Definitely thanks for the heads up. Finally caught up with our local dealer. I was honest with him about what I was looking at doing and got a price 1200 more (than they are looking for from the used rental) for a brand new sk800. So the 752 is going back tomorrow, getting a loaner 1050 Monday until my 800 is ready Wednesday or Thursday next week. Looking forward to a shiny new toy next week :sorprendido3::whistle:

Can always make more money... what's the price of the two units?
The 1050 is 33+/-. But now I'm getting frustrated. The dealer said the 800s would be in this week, but now only duel stick drives came this week. So Monday he is supposed to get confirmation if my single will be on the truck for the end of next week.
And now I'm back to trying to decide if I role the dice with the emissions on the 1050 mainly cause I could have it in my yard tomorrow and working on Monday (the dealer lets me use his loaner but that not helping the decision making process). It was very nice to run on Monday, smooth and powerful. The extra capacity, auto throttle and hp were nice. But the only difference is the HP, emissions and the capacity all the other dimensions are identical.
Decisions, decisions decisions
