Yep, mine get grabby after a few months but none have shown enough wear to warrant retirement because they were unsafe. Were the eyes coated on yours?
I think pine pitch is the worst thing you can get on HRC, it never completely works back out the way it does with rope.
I've heard that high mod fibers like Vectran and Technora are self abrasive but never read it in any manufacturers literature.
