where to get good prusik cordage?

what about using amsteel or ice as a prussic cord, easy to splice up at both ends and super strong and light. only bad side of amsteel is it extremely low melting point

Bites too hard to make it almost impossible to release in a hurry, poly cover which will burn fast, very little amount of fiber to make it critical to inspect for any flaws at all, not recommended for that purpose by the manufacturer...

Used HRC for the first time on Friday. two differnt lengths, 24" and 30". I tie a Michoacan, and with Ice I go 5 up. HRC I went 4 up and it grabbed nicely. The 24" was too short that went back in the bag after two thrusts! the 30" was OK, but after climbing and some limbwaks it bound up to the point it had to be retied, and then when coming down it bit so hard it took 2 hands and everything I had to release it....that was 20' of fun!

I will try a 36" next, but HRC may be retired just like Beeline, and Bailout for me......

Sorry Bull, that was too good to pass up.

I've been there except I use a 4-up VT with 2 braids. To me HRC has to be perfectly tied based on your rope type and body weight. If it's too loose it won't catch reliably and if it's too tight... well, you know that one already... miserable descents with exhausted hands. Pine pitch exacerbates the problem quite a bit.

...but when it's perfect, the sensitivity is unsurpassed.

I assume your split tails are spliced. Do you know if they were full bury with a crossed taper or short bury? The full bury ones are stiffer and don't seize so easily but they don't necessarily grab without encouragement either.

I'm using short bury HRC on Velocity and Icetail on Poison Ivy.

hrc on tach..... i weigh 210-220 vt three wraps three cross's. perfection. 4 + 2 on a pulley. once again perfection. i've found cord length to be just as important on hrc. 28" grizzly spliced is the magic number for me. tried 30" n 32" to they were to loose and would get wrapped around my hitch climber making the hitch unpredictable.

this is eye spliced HRC. seems full bury as it is pretty fat and ultra stiff. the 24" was so stiff I could barely bend it to tie my hitch!
ill try a 36" and report back.

I did notice that the 2 prussics have different colored internal cord. the 24" was red the 30" was gray. they were both marked as being spliced @ NE.

Jim, the stitched stuff was reworked with a different core to make it rated after stitching. Try the same with a hank from Northeastern (on the right here). They sell it by the foot and it is the old recipe. I believe NE Ropes is going to change that new core again to make it less siff.

I prefer the non spliced. I know its not as streamline, but tying scaffold/ double fisherman knots allows you to really fine tune it. I have used beeline, both sizes, hrc and tenex.
HRC has far surpassed all the rest.

X 2 + ice tail hrc rulez

to bad. i don't like tying knots i just seems to cluttered to me. am i alone i this thought? i would have to run an hms crab and the one i have is way hard to use (it's a kong and completely backwards to every other crab i own). i finally had to retire my hrc prussic today; after 5 months :-). due to the naked eye splices getting thin and the prussic started getting real grabby all the sudden (like the past week). has anyone else experienced the grabbiness of hrc cord after along duty cycle? was it close to failure? i've heard that hrc is self abrasive is this true? i like this tread its been very informative.
