When you see the Petzl Chicane

Oh jeez, cmon Backcountry! I wanna love you but you’re acting like a whiny little bitch now!

I want to buy a ziggzagg and use it SRT. I feel bad buying the chicane knock off to go with it but am tempted by ease of use and price.

Kevin can you make (or have made), an out of the box aluminum tether and sell (or have it sold) them at a good price together with a rope wrench?

There are some that claim it actually works better with the zigzag.

Personally I believe it is a rip off and using their financial strength as a deterrent. But then see an oversized clunky branded piece of gear that appeals to those that don’t tune gear, or are restricted in the gear they are allowed to use on the job. It probably also appeals to certain recreational sectors.

Normally I would be outraged, but it sort of fills a niche that might not necessarily get filled with the wrench. There are those that won’t buy anything unless it appears in a glossy pamphlet or catalogue. And the chicane has a handle that says ‘put your hand here’...

I believe the shortfall is in a video about tuning gear to identify and show the benefits of compact gear like the rope wrench. There is a few other wrenches/tethers around too...

Richards Minimax video in YouTube video shows this well.

The arb community is a small niche and we the working climbers are really the only people with the power to stop companies like Petzl and Weaver from stealing from men like Kevin and Richard. All we have to do is simply stop buying their shit. Fuck the non midline attachable Zigzag and fuck the Shitcan. Buy a Wrench or a Runner and take solace in knowing you are getting one of the very best tools of the trade, while also supporting a true innovator and all around good guy.

I had a wrench and have a runner. I liked the bdb better. Ive been climbing on my own device for a few years and it might be the best device there is.

However, it needs a few refinements and I am wanting to return to the safety of a tested device. Im used to non midline attachment and it doesn't hinder me.

I posted my request because I would rather support Kevin than Petzl.

So what your saying is your gonna support Petzl by purchasing a Zigzag but dont want to support Petzl by purchasing their Shitcan?

Yes.

I want a zigzag and nobody else makes one.

I may not respond to your final judgment but I will consider it.

And a BDB to support Gordon @surveyor!

I am just messing with you Treegong, so please dont take me too seriously.. It's your $ and you have every right to spend it as you see fit. The ZigZag is a great tool and I can fully understand your desire to own one. I will say that I have had the opportunity to give the Zigzag/Chicane combo a go, and I have to admit that it was pretty freakin' smooth and awesome (sorry Kevin). I did find the new Zigzag to be fairly massive, and the Zag/Chicane setup strange and bulky. Not exactly a great spar work setup, which is essential for my work. I also didn't like the thought of having to occasionally thread 300 ft of rope through this Non midline attachable device, but the deal breaker for me was the fact that Petzl had basically committed intellectual theft (chicane) from a man I wholeheartedly support. If not for the latter I would probably own the Zag Plus and permanently leave it on a line for my occasional DdRT needs.

The Chicane works on any version of the ZigZag, you don't have to buy the new, bigger one.

There’s always the Z Runner...

Clearly, anything with a "Z" and the word "runner" in the name is a ripoff, scam, patent infringement and should be boycotted. It also has bollards, plates and links. Wait... I think I have a 1970's piece of gear around here that qualifies... where did I put that? Maybe with those 1970's devices with cams and moving parts that look so very much like all the new gear I have with cams and moving parts.

Fuck it. Just boycott everything and be done with it.
