When did chain brkes get intrduced!

Talking with some guys in the shop today and we are all little to young to remember the days of no chain brakes. So just wondering when brakes became standard and what were the first saws to incorporate them? Google searches brought up no info!

I'll take guess and say around 1975. When they 1st came out, we removed it as soon as it got back to the shop. The dealer even showed me how to remove it, but couldn't remove it himself due to liability.

I remember when Stihl introduced the inertia system in 1984 at the ISA show in Quebec City, Quebec, CA.

My old man has a husky c85 (i think) that I would guess he bought in ~1979 and it doesn't have a chainbrake. Still cuts like a new saw.

I'm going to say mid to late 70's also. All the saws I used had no chainbrakes till I bought a couple husky 181's around 80. The first brakes were made out of aluminum and were a pain. They would always get bent or twisted and alot of people just broke them off to get rid of them. Bigtime improvement when they came out with the plastic brake that is on the saws now.

the first saws I can remember were the 902/922 homeatnight that we had to put the brakes on to be legal for work, P 60 pin. also . The chainbreak on the hommys was terrible as the break brand would rub on the clutch drum and wear itself out
