It’s what I do. All of my guys are under the arborist/logging comp code through the labor company. They charge 148% the employee’s hourly rate, which is 2% more compared to me doing it all, but I save 2 hours a week in office work, so it actually makes me more money. I pay a ground guy $20.00 an hour, they charge $29.00. It’s also all a simple write off.In MN there is a state pool of companies that provide workers comp at a structured rate. They have to insure.
For a long while I payrolled my employees through a daily labor company. I was charged a percentage of payroll and the company billed me every two weeks. The %age that I paid included all payroll taxes and comp. I supervised and hired/fired the workers.
The markup was only a little more than the state rate for tree care workers. The daily labor company was able to list my workers as general labor so the rate was CHEAP.
Oklahoma state comp wanted to start me out at 36%
