Climbed a gnarly Argentine Mesquite today (Prosopsis alba), but forgot my camera. So I cut a few small branches to show you guys. Next time I'll try to get a shot of a whole tree...scary lookin.

Those are huge. Ill bet one of those could easily puncture between ribs and do major damage. I hate climbing Argentines. Or worse..chipping it.

I put them in brush end first if I can, but I did catch one on the back of my thigh as it was going through the chipper, ouch!

Sorry dude that is not Black Locust but not sure what it is
Black has smaller thorns, it looks more like Honey but the bark looks different then it does up north here

B. locusts (Robinia pseudoacacia), have robin egg shaped leaflets. just remember the genus and you'll always get this one.
H. locusts (Gleditsia triacanthos) have narrower leaflets and sometimes have bipinnately compound leafs, esspecially on new growth.

Sorry, I guess I kinda hi-jacked this thread by posting those pics. To set the record straight, the original embedded pics that Jerseygirl posted were of a Locust, the ones I posted were from an Argentine Mesquite.
