What is the lowest temp you'll work in?

Re: What is the lowest temp you\'ll work in?

In DE along with the cold comes the wind that is the only thing I hate I can work in the cold but like someone else said you have so many clothes on you fell like you cannot even bend over to pick up brush. Last Monday it was windy and freezing and out of all places to be our boss sent our crew to the beach? A block away from the ocean talk about cold it was crazy!!! The winters here are always windy it sucks!!!

Re: What is the lowest temp you\'ll work in?

Sometimes being a "treeguy" can suck, and the one of the few times that it did was like you said: near the ocean in Winter.

I supervised the pot grinder work on a clearing within ten yards of the Atlantic, meaning in short the rest of the crew were loader, crawler, and truck drivers. I was alone with chainsaw so it was me out in the sleet climbing piled tree piles, dissecting everything to six feet or less. Soaking wet, violent chills, slipping and falling, chains disbarring, debris being thrown out of machine to high altitude, returning to earth and my prescense, physically spent.

When it was over, I rejoiced.

I worked in the middle of a refinery at 23 below zero.It was extremely rare to get that cold.About 20 minutes at a time was about all you could stand.

The coldest I've ever seen was on the polar ice cap at 42 below F.That wasn't that bad,no wind.

Re: What is the lowest temp you\'ll work in?

Great responses everyone. 3 things that jumped out at me were, 1) warming hands on the chipper exhaust is absolutely key, 2)lots of extra clothes does make the climbing belt and the connections and seeing stuff around your waist alot more difficult. 3)Wish I knew how to convert C to F...

If the trucks do start on those cold days, of course its hard to beat tree removals done on pavement-hard lawns!

Re: What is the lowest temp you\'ll work in?

It totally depends on the job at hand and work back log.

I have worked in the cold stuff and absolutely hate it. What I find even worse is the not so cold stuff. Most painful days for me have been the ones where it is 30-33F and dumping huge wet snow flakes. At least with the really cold stuff you stay dry.

Around 20 below. If we didn't, there'd be no work from December to March. Worse for us is when the ice coats the limbs, especially those fat vertical American elms. That's another sort of weather issue 'cause production goes way down under those conditions.

Re: What is the lowest temp you\'ll work in?

When I don't feel motivated I don't work. I call the customer and reschedule. Sometimes the bills I need to pay dictate when I work or not.

If I have money set aside for bills, then I call in on those cold days.

3 - double it and add 32 so 10C = 20+32 = 52F

And that's about MY limit!! Spoiled in Bermuda
